Ok so Sunday I felt a bit shakey bit assumed it was from the new years bottle of wine.

Out we went Monday morning 4 o'clock to the cradle.

Really suffered and sweated tons. Went back home and felt all is not well.

Monday morning I have full blown bronchitis, fever, high blood pressure etc.

It was as if the disease went from zero to a hundred in one night. Probably because my immune system was spent after the training day and sun and illness dont exactly gel either....

Is this maybe good as I should recover quicker? What I mean by this is instead of feeling the frog in your head and then have it move down to your lungs only days later, I have it full blown already.......

I have a half IM in EL on 21 Jan so I really need to recover ASAP.

Any tips etc? I have antibiotics etc......

eat garlic, lots of garlic (brought my personal recovery time down to 3 days). as for recovery, it's important you rest as much as you can and drink loads of fluids. I've had it myself where I've felt a dodgy one day at work, the next day almost ending up in hospital with pneumonia - seriously, follow your doc's advice to the letter.

IMO, give the half IM a skip. You will need at least two weeks without training to recover and then you will only have one week before the tri. I know it is a bummer, but rather safe than sorry. You dont want to do permanent damage

Fever = No riding. Thus the obvious question, will you be able to recover for two weeks and do with just the one week of training before hand?

If yes, garlic is spot on, most home remedies include something like a chicken garlic soup. Grab yourself some kiddies multi vits as well, and have one in the morning and one at night (Vitamin B and C is quite important). They are not as strong as adult ones and something like supradyn recharge just gets washed down the loo. And yes, lots of water!

although its controversial you may want to ask your Doctor about a beriglobin injection to boost your immune system,(just bear in mind that it costs about R600 a shot) but it may help you to get better sooner. with three weeks to IM you should be done with most of your training anyway so i would take it easy for a week and see how you feel after a week, then get in a couple of brick sessions before tapering for the event. I believe its better going into an event like IM a little undercooked than overtrained anyway so it just may be a blessing in disguise

I had the same happen to me in October. DON'T train while you are on the antibiotics, just rest as much as you can!! I managed to start doing easy training sessions 2 days after the course was antibiotics finished. The week after that I was back to my proper training program. But be careful and listen to your body!! I would also recommend using a heart rate monitor if you dont normally use one. It took me about 3 weeks for my heart rate to get back to normal during training. So take it easy, even if it feels like you should be going harder. As some of the guys have said already, you dont want to end up doing permanent damage to yourself or even worse!!

Goodluck with the recovery.

With all the garlic you will keep werewolfs, vampires and mosquitos away, o ja and all your friends and family.

Get lots of Vitamin C, overdose, with all the water suggested the Vit C you do not use will be flushed out. If you are Arthritis or high uric acid prone do not do it.

Firstly 70.3 is on 22 Jan and not the 21st so I would adjust your arrangements accordingly

Secondly get lots of sleep, drink plenty water and eat as much fruit and veg as you can handle. You should kick it in time.

Good luck!

Agh that sucks Garf...

I've found Viral Force works for me, has most of the immune boosting ingredients already mentioned above in it.

Typicaly it takes about 10 days from when you start feeling the symptoms to clear up enough to be safe to resume training, and by then it will be to late to improve your fitness so just take it easy and concentrate on a full recovery so you will be strong on the day.

Thanks guys. Beriglobin it shall be. After the 70.3 I shall retire and become a full time vampire hunter. Until then though I shall take onboard fluids and rest. Also got viral force so lets see. I take Dale is looking for an entry? (Joke)

With all the reference to eating garlic, I keep thinking about that remedy veggie called beetroot (hey former Mrs Health Minister, may her soul RIP)

Rest well and come back hard!!

I'm surpised no one suggested the easiest option of all.

Drive around town. When a man walks up to your window with an A5 pamphlet, take it. Then go see the Doctor/Professor advertised on the flyer.

The flyer will look something like this:

Not to be mistaken for the flyer you take when you want to buy a new bike:
