Emperors Palace Classic 2012 (Road Race)

I can't say I enjoyed this race, way too many dangerous intersections to cross, and too many of these intersections were manned by lone flag waving individuals. Approaching some of them in a speeding bunch was a bit disconcerting at times, all it needed was for an impatient motorist to push through for a big accident to happen. I'm crossing this one off my future race list, there are much safer places to ride on a Sunday morning.

Yip.......same feeling I got. Loads and loads of traffic and intersections not manned.

Was scary most of the time......

We had a car skidding through the intersection at the K90 centre on our way back, the cop told him to reverse and he kept on going forward, clearly intoxicated or something, didn't stay there long enough to see what happened, a few seconds faster and we would have been hit...

Got a late entry and started in I. Loads of fun & plenty of people to play with, its re-sparked my enthusiasm for these races. Funny that at the same time as having many "water-bottle presenters", you've also got a lot of folk going no-hands and others with mp3s.

Was a bit eventful in the first 10kms, I think they let G,H and I start together as they were running late. Lots of creative manouveres amongst the mtbs, furry rabbits on helmets and honky horns.

It was great though, loads of folk having a go, great weather not much wind and a good start/finish venue.

Good organization I reckon; but when a policewoman holds up her hand to stop traffic and a line of at least 6 vehicles fly by, you just gotta know that EastRand Neanderthals get up early on a Sunday.

The work you guys did was impressive. I had a few sniffs of the fresh air on the front of that bunch but not enough to be called a worker. My feeling is that if someone is strong enough to be seeded in a bunch ( man, woman, old or young) they are capable of doing a turn on the front - especially after the teams have "left" us. What I really find hard is trying to get to the front from 5 or 6th wheel just because someone who insists on being third wheel refuses to do a turn. That and guys who join the "loop" without any intention of hitting the front - and then not giving the spent workers a gap to get back in. Leaves me shaking my head. (old guy in Cyclelab kit)

I was in the front of the AL group till the last turn when they went for the sprint I sat up. Worked my @ss of for a good time as I don't go for the sprint to win the group. This morning the results were correct, showing the winner of the group as 2:31:40. Just checked again and there are 10 new names from 2:27:34. How on earth is this possible? Who can one contact with regards to this error it needs to be fixed? What's right is right. I know it makes no difference to me whatsoever, but it is not a true reflection of the race.

To add the guy that supposedly won the group now seems to ave raced in two groups at the same time, well done.

the problem with this race is it crosses the busiest roads in Boksburg at the worst possible time of the month.

The weather kept the usual traffic down this year, but normally by 9 am you cannot move on North Rand road.

Im surprised the EMPD allow it. Then again this is the same EMPD that say H2O is not an annoyance to the residence in the surrounding areas.

I can tell by the names in the A-bunch that did 2:27, that you may have been in the front of the bunch, but you perhaps missed a breakaway.

Talking about "wheelsuckers", I tried to keep up with the lead bunch of the 50k but just could not keep up not even mentioning taking a turn in front, what an experience!!, it was insane but I enjoyed every second of it, next time I will try to keep up and take a turn in front.

I was seeded to start in DL group but started with my son in IL group. This was his secong 100km race. Last week at the fast one he overcooked it in the first 40km and cramped badly. I started with him to pace him and help him to ride in bunches. Know what, ended up doing all the work on the front because for some or other reason if you start in lower groups, everybody wants to wheelsuck you. Did not realy mind as I did the race as a training ride with him and he managed a not to bad time.

Someone had too...haha.

I was a bit peeved at getting a bad wheel in the gutter and not making it back to the front though.

Ended up being lekker.
