Can't really call anyone before Hels a wheelsucker. They only appeared after Hels. It was that small climb past Fair View that got rid of the passengers, as well as the Fisantekraal climb.

Haha, thats what I said... Ya, just there on those two little "hills" the guys dropped like flies!

I was riding into your bike at 40km/h. Thank you for yanking it to the left 0.1 seconds prior to impact. Moses and the red sea immediately came to mind.

Get well soon!

The front front guys of A-D stayed away the whole day ;)

Velouria - apologies. Forgot about the front 5 break-away that stayed away!

Were you one of the Famous 5?

Phew! I'm glad there was actually someone matching that description riding along, thought I was hallucinating http://1.1.1.1/bmi/www.thehubsa.co.za/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png

`white DFA top, black bib; with accompanying pained expression on face for whole race. I thought it was wise to do hill repeats on saturday

Nice meeting you Denise! - I for one gutted myself over that 80km stretch where we chased the guys down.

Overall a very enjoyable ride

Likewise Bram. Hamstrings were twitching the last 10km's. Nice strong ride from yourself.

Terloops: my wife made an interesting comment - she passed us in the car with about 25km to go. A bit further on she noticed some participants slip-streaming a bakkie, and every time they got close to a corner / intersection with marshals, the bakkie will move ahead, only to rejoin our fellow participants for a lekker slipstream to the end..

Next thing you know they'll all be eating contaminated steaks and have secret motors in their bb's!

You just have to smile and wave..

Yeah - and boy did I regret it. 6 of us from Fruit Sellers all the way to Spier before the tandems caught us. Was a good work out though - the kind where you ask yourself what the hell you were thinking and where you are "recovering" at 170bpm...

Ah dude! One week it's me, the next it's you

At least I have the wet roads with the slick to blame for my crash, and it was a bit smoother because it was wet tar

My point 5: Take corners like my granny on a unicycle (and then haul ass to try catch up)

Don't get my started on HR! Since Die Burger I now only use HR for post race analysis. That was until my Garmin was vibrating the full Hels distance! 'Slow down, you are above your max!'

160 avg HR for 2h32

Only Die Burger avg HR was higher @ 164

169 bpm avg for 2:51 (max 185, must be getting fitter) for Medallion.

170 bpm avg for Burger

Not too shabby for an "old toppie" of 47.

I maxed out on 204...

I suspect it was the bit I was riding on loose sand and gravel, trying like mad not to get planted about 3 k's from the end. Was run out of road by a single guy suddenly drifting left just when I was passing him. And yeah, I did warn the moment I saw him starting to come my way. And did not pass right, because there was much more room on the left. (Before I'm the one getting crucified by the traffic police...)

I may take the mtb to coming Sat's road ride, though... :D

PS - if you're the guy and you're here - no hard feelings, I realised immediately it was completely unintentional.

I only check my HR post race. Cadence is what I look at during the race. Time and distance is just to glance at. If I keep my cadence in a good zone, I have a great race.
