Right, at least the ship hasn't sunk. Much better structure and overall a better performance. Not hundreds , but we'll take it. Few fellas stuck their hands up , Eben , Trevor, Lwazi, Schalk. But Heyneke, 2 words for you sir, say after me; PATRICK LAMBIE

Posted

Pat Lambie's defence is so much better than Pollard's.  And once again I saw why I don't like old Nick Naks.  He has no idea of attacking, even if he is OK on defence.  Eben was a monster, at times keeping halve the Puma forwards busy, and beating most of his backs at defending a try that they should have defended.

I've got a simple solution.

Let Cosatu pick the squad, including as many PDI's as they want. That must include coaching and support staff as well.

And then let us see how well this "representative team" fares against the worlds top teams (or the Argentine's of this world. :whistling: )

And how well the ticket sales will be for these games.

Now you're talking.....give the Boks to Cosatu for a year and in turn let SARU run the trade unions for a year. Make a reality TV show of the whole thing. It could become a new extreme contact sport. Thank me later for the brilliant idea and just pay me my 10% royalties in Switzerland.

well i think the all blacks are really focused for this world cup

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=191&v=ji65WI5QLZI

They've been showing the history of the WC on World of Rugby interviewing players with an insert of John Smit talking about how they've focussed on this for 4 years leading up to '07.

He mentioned "believe". Said something like saying you believe is one thing and acting like you believe being another. It meant you have to walk like you believe and look like you believe you're going to win the WC which every member of that squad did.

They showed an image of Smit leading that team onto the field walking out the tunnel next to the English and I must admit the look on his face and the stride in his steps described everything he was articulating in his words through this interview so many years later.

That really drove home for me what it takes to win the WC. The All Blacks look good. AS ALWAYS. But knockout competitions doesn't suite their style of play.

Agree. I've never rated Pollard. I'd be taking Jantjies or even Goosen to RWC together with Lambie if I could choose.

You've got to remember we cleaned up england 36-0 in the pool stage (FdP bossed that game big time) - and then look how close the final became!

For me we got very lucky with the draw for the knockouts there - only played england out of the 6nations/tri nations teams all tournament. top half had france/england/nz/aus and the bottom half was RSA/arg/sco/fiji. but we still had to win it.

it's looking the other way this year. we're likely to end up in the half of the draw with aus/nz/france - going to have to do it the hard way.

That's what I meant with knockout rugby. Last WC the Blacks did the same thing to the Frogs in the pool stages, and how did the final turn out? Low scoring one point difference or something?

agreed. and the all blacks have been overwhelming favorites to win the tournament pretty much every edition we've played. Why should this year really be any different?

for the boks, the pools shouldn't be an issue - scotland/samoa(again)/usa/japan.

then it's likely to be aus=>nz=>england(at home).

SO, a wobble in the pools might not be the worst thing to happen. we could take scotland's expected route rather eng=>ire=>nz

I like the way you put it. "A wobble" is not uncommon but I get the feeling the Boks can’t really afford to send an under strength team into any of the pool games. They need to build on continuity after the Pumas exposed them in Durban. Focus on combinations once HM decided what his best team is.

That 36-0 routing of the Poms you mentioned above was the Boks’ best game that tournament. Similarly last time around the All Blacks played their game of the tournament against the Frogs in the pool stage. So seems to be a trend that teams play out of their souls in the pools but then finals rugby is just mentally so different.

I reckon for where the Boks are currently at, they really need to build their combinations/confidence and aim to peak by the semis and carry that through to the final.

But now all this talk is starting to wet my appetite for the WC. Something I haven’t had any mojo for as yet. :D

Heyneke must know who his best team is by now, if not then i want him to repay some of his salary for the past four years! The way i see it -

winning the pool is expected, we can either:

* click and be realistic contenders going into the knockouts

* bumble through and make heavy weather of it.

coming second in the pool, would not be such a bad thing. as the draw from then is bound to be much easier

coming third would probably see tannies vloeking on RSG.

Posted

Heineke will probably use his second team against Samoa, to prevent injuries to his top players.

and suspensions from the citings that come from the expected fight(s)!

He seems upset about something.
