Not cool at all, but just a bit curious why Mr.Mead chose to cycle infront of the bus, and not on the side of the road like us cyclists do.

Ja it was Meads fault. In a just society they'd jail him for provoking a civil servant and Mr Bus Driver would be sent back out to patrol the streets.

What kind of a world are we living in where cyclists are allowed to occupy a whole lane and you can't even use your bus to show them the error of their ways?

Farking crackers if you ask me.

Yoh thats a bit hectic.

There is something wild within public transport bus drivers…. They don’t like ANYONE to hold them up, probably because of the schedules they have to keep to.

Once had one come up quickly and quietly behind me and blow his hooter, nearly stained by assos

Was my fault because I was riding in the bus lane because there was heavy traffic in the normal lane which was not very wide….

Nowadays if I ride in a bus lane my heart rate increases a few beats and I regularly check behind me…

Interesting interaction...the "attack" was obviously the result of some or other previous altercation "tugging on a windscreen wiper".

Some questions from my side:

What goes through someone's head when they decide to run over a cyclist with a bus?

Why would a cyclists try and swerve in front of a bus in the first place (cyclist is right in the middle of the road!!).

Just another case of egos causing men to act like jerks. Bus 1 - Cyclist 0

You must hear the horns the Rea Vaya buses in the CBD use these days! Scares the crap out of me.

And that was also the last time he did it. The authorities there dealt with it. But that driver looks like the kind of person I don't wanna meet in a dark passage.

The article states there was a prior argument after the bus nearly hit the cyclist at a roundabout.

The cyclist is either making a point, or more likely is simply afraid to have the bus pass him again, perhaps having noticed that the driver is a raving lunatic.

Either way, the cyclist gets a broken leg which hopefully mends soon enough. The bus driver gets jailed for at least 6 months and the rest of the world gets to witness it. To my mind that's a positive outcome for all road users as it sends the right message.

Agreed on sending the right message.

I can't agree on the cyclist trying to save himself by riding in front of a raving lunatic though! Me - if I saw them crazy eyes I'd be on the pavement in a flash... Call me a coward but I don't see myself trying to outmuscle a bus with 8kg of carbon. Personally I think if the cyclist had swallowed his pride and checked his anger he would not have a broken leg, the bus driver would still have his license and we would not be talking. Surely thats a better outcome than hospital time, court time and jail time?

That said - neither of us know what happened so it's all a moot point.

I used to always ride in the bus lanes in London, in fact if I can remember the cycle lanes were inside the bus lanes as its the safest place!

Interesting that so many of the comments at the bottom of the article start along the lines of 'what the bus driver did was wrong but...' That "but" tells us how many people can half-justify the bus driver behavious at some level by the way cyclsist ourselves behave. Did someone say our own worst enemy?

It does not matter what the cyclist did, no one had the right to do that to another human. So how about stopping blaming the cyclist?

I dont say the cyclist was right, but he was pissed of so he rode in the middle of road....still not reason to run him over.

I dont care if the bus driver action was a action or re-action it is not cool!!! If a taxi cuts me off while driving it DOES NOT give me the right to try and kill them

Who was the 'own worst enemy' in this case? Maybe it's the guy sitting in chookie with no job prospects to come home to. He'll be lucky to be riding the bus never mind driving one.

I don't think anyone is blaming the cyclist. I'm fairly sure everyone here agrees that it is not right to run people over - even the law agreed with you by sending the driver to jail.

All I'm saying is that is the cyclist was given the opportunity to relive the event I think he would have opted to avoid the altercation and not end up spending several weeks in hospital with a broken leg.

IMO this accident was the result of baiting and overreaction. If both cyclist AND driver had kept their egos in check it would have been a non event.

In this case I agree with you, to a point. Had the cyclist died that would be a different story - irrespective of what happened to the bus driver, the cyclist's wife would have had to endure endless heartache for an entirely avoidable situation. Bottom line, in an fight between an 8kg piece of carbon and tons of metal, the cyclist ALWAYS loses. Cyclists need to keep this in mind, one idiot having a bad day could end your life.
