I am upgrading to a full suss 29er in a few week time and have a budget of between 20-24K Have been looking at the Giant Anthem 2, Trek Superfly, Trek Rumblefish or the Cube 29er AMS full suss. All have similar specs. Which would be the best choice in terms of quality and ride experience/enjoyment???

I am on my 2nd Superfly 100 (first the 2011 and now the 2012 model ) and i wont change it for the world !!!! Just a cult on its own ... Its a love hate thing i guess .... My 2cents worth ... Good luck with the decision ... :-)

Giant X1 2012 has got Fox suspension which is difficult to beat. Scott Elite has DT rear shock and is just not as good as Fox RP2. When buying a 29er you must check the gear ratios because it seems when you buy a 29er you are assumed to be super strong and can ride a very heavy granny gear up any hill. I would say unless you are a pro or dont ride in the mountains you must at least have a 22x36 granny, but these days its all 2x10 with 26x36 at best. Shimano SLX 2x10 is the only 2x10 setup where you get a 22x36 out the box, SRAM can also go 22 now but it requires a spider converter which costs almost as much as a SLX crankset and is difficult to find.

I am sure this topic has been raised before. However at the risk of being served i am going to ask the question again as i am leaving the road and joining the dirt brigade. What are the pro's and con's of riding either a 26 or 29?

Go for a 29er, I was sceptical at first, but made the change and haven’t looked back. You will eventually give in to buying a 29er, so buy one now rather than wasting your money on a 26er and having to buy a 29er later..

I am fortunate to ride both and must admit the verdict is still out on the 29er(got it in November)My immediate prefference if asked is still with my Morewood

I must admit i dont do crazy technical riding, XC\Marathon type riding is more my game.. went from an AM full sus 130mm travel, to a Cannondale Carbon 29er 90 ml front hardtail and its a dream, kept the other bike for a while, but eventually sold it as i was never using it... so it all depends on your riding. in the latest MBR uk Mag, the guys did a trail test on 29er trail bikes and they seem to be convinced or at least starting to believe a bit in the 29ers... they never used to have anything good to say about 29ers..

The problem is it isnt easy to get a bike to try out for a little while here in SA, it doesnt help to go for one ride on a 29er, chances are you will hate it, it takes quite a while to get used to the bigger wheels..
