Hey guys

Mate of mine is looking at getting a Raleigh Team Carbon:

Can you please give some feedback on this bike in particular, and also owning a carbon bike in general: likelihood of breaking/cracks etc etc...

Thoughts please?

Thank you!

Depends on what he wants for it.

The frame is pretty light but the fork is heavy. The frame is stiff and weight is about 1050 grams.

Those frames are used by a few other "Italian" bike makers and they sell the frame for around R20k.

I have a carbon Raleigh , the rc 7000, which is little different and it's a great bike. Stiff, lightish with good wheels and after two years it still looks new.

Saw one of the top pro ladies ride one to second place on the weekend, one of the Bizhub ladies.

Team MTN won a quite a few races on them before they changed to Trek.

The same as what the rider of Bizhub used

I have that same frame and it really is nice. Just a few things to consider.

Some of them had their sizes incorrectly marked. Mine states size "52 Large." It should read "52 Medium" This mistake was pointed out to me by Probike, the importers of these frames.

The second thing, which could be linked to the incorrect sizing, is the top tubes are relatively long. My Medium has a 57 cm top tube as opposed to 55cm odd for most mediums.

Thirdly, these red/black frames were never available as complete bikes. The frames were brought in specifically as part of a recall on the 2007 frames which had a tendency to crack.

I personally believe that your friend cannot go wrong. I have never heard of a single breakage on these frames. Team Microsoft rode them in this colour scheme and the 2008 yellow/blue scheme in 2007 and 2008. Over a period of 2 or so years, there were at least 4 or 5 SA titles won on these frames (something the Raleigh bashers don't like to hear).

I had a Raleigh team frame like that with 105. When I got it I weighed 125kg. I rode that frame for 2 years and not a single problem. Only reason I sold it is because my bike shop offered me a awesome deal on the RC8000C with SRAM. Still miss my bike.Go for it.

What could one expect to pay for one of these with 105 10 - speed components and Eaton rims (not sure what model rim)?

Searching for information on frames and stumbled upon this. I bought this frame in 2009, the red and black team frame, built the bike with an Ultegra 6700 groupset with Mavic Kysirium elite wheels. I still have the bike today and it looks incredible. I replaced the wheels with a new 2017 Mavic Kysirium elite and it rides pretty well. I have serviced the bike once a year before a big race and just can’t find fault in it. It’s an excellent frame, rides hills and bumps very well. Can’t find a reason to replace it. Maybe considering replacing the groupset with a R8000 Ultegra and there an up to date bike with 11 speed. I’ve checked the bike for frame stresses or fractures nd there is absolutely nothing wrong. I regularly jump the bike when I leave a speed bump and no damage.
