Hmm, team challenge at "24 hours at Weisenhof" comes to mind. Never having ridden an MTB before, I hired one at 10 in the morning and rode my first lap about 2 hours later.

Fell off after about 300 metres (on a slope, head down, feet in the air).

Rode into a tree shortly after.

Then drew the 10pm slot, which took me 1hr40mins to do 1 lap (about 4km, I think). I couldn't see more than 2 metres in front of the bike. After that, I just turned over and slept for the rest of my turns throughout the night.

But the 94.7 also comes to mind. A saddle sore the size of my thumb (literally) on that long back stretch of highway.

Entered the Star 100 road race in Oct 86 or 87 I think it was

Predecessor to the 94.7

Started and finished at Nasrec anti clockwise. When we got to Witkoppen the heavens opened with first rain, then hail, then sleet all the way home.Huge low pressure system.Same weekend people died in the snow top of the Amphitheatre.

I remember climbing Allens Nek and my arms and chest covered in ice.Thank god for the Milo Bar and Coke at the bottom of the hill.

Finished but have never been so cold or stuffed in my life

My first Crater Cruise made me question the universe. This year's Sabie marathon was probably the firs time I bombed in a race though, and it happened early, so that was not consumer friendly either. And that reference to Van Gaalens, now that was a testing day that wasn't funny. But as rough as they get, the day after you normally start planning how you gonna fix it the next year. The only race I really did not like and have not gone back to was voortrekker monument... too much rubble, dust and trouble for too little reward

My friend was attacked by a guinea fowl on his mtb and ended up having to turn around...bwahahaha!!

My side is very different to most. Get yuppie flu, try fight it and go for a 20km ride, every turn of the peddle hurts and get home feeling like you rode 200kms. took me a month to recover and get back on a bike again.

I have had a worst/nice ride.

The first Rietvlei 24 hour.

A heavy afternoon thundershower with the mercury dropping very low at night.

The course stayed wet and virtually never dried out.

The section in to Bennie's bend and out of there was nightmare stuff.

My first Sabie classic. It was my second marathon ever and I totally underestimated those mountains. Bonked 20km into the 75km so I had to battled 55km home through the Sabie mountains. I think bonk took on a totally new meaning Spend almost 6hrs in the saddle.

Same here. Ended up cramping so badly on the last stretch past Merry Pebbles Holiday Resort (on the opposite side of the river), that I fell off my bike and was laying on the side of the track. Spasms / cramps was so bad I could not unclip, had bike swinging from my feet. Must have been a hillarious sight. Worst of all, we were staying at Merry Pebbles. To be so close to home, and yet so far.

The guys from Specialized carted my bike off in the morning to go and clean it whilst I was eating, it took two of them to lift it and flip it upside down.
