Yeah sure why dont we just kit them out with DH tyres?

No such thing as a bomb proof tyre, I have destroyed every single make of tyre out on the market and i dont put in 1 x 50th of the km's these guys put in, you seriously think they have not gone through 1000's of km's of training on those same brand tyres?

They sit around and just pick their kit the night before a race?

Get real people they know more about those tyres than you can ever imagine. Bottom line is thats the nature of the beast, crap happens, and any one hubber that suggests these guys dont know their kit, or did something due to lack of skill, is seriously deluded with their litte place on this planet.

They know more than us about kit and cycling, they spend big money on researching every single component on the market, and these guys have more skill in their little toes than the entire hubs skill capacity combined and multiplied by Pi.

I only have to say gawd i luv hubbers. Reminds me of some hub experts argueing with Jeron Swart, though i didnt think they new it was Dr Swart on the other end of the keyboard.

I think they did......and another thing,Jeroen Swart argues with a lot of people....including non Hub experts

Because he can and is usually right, you dont get to where he is by being wrong very often. :)

What our hub experts should do however is form a panel, so that the hub can give Evans and George a sheet for next years epic including

What diet to follow

What training plan to do

What bikes to ride with specified kit. (including wheels)

What massage therapist to use

What coaches to use,

What clothing to wear

And what strategy to use during the race,

They surely cant fail then now can they? HUB EXPERTS TO INFINITY AND BYEOND!!!!!!

Can anybody comment on what rear shock they are using on the Spark ? Looks like they have swopped out the DT Swiss for a rockshox or Fox ! Don't see any cables or 3 way remote lockout on handlebars as per standard RC spec !

Custom built and tuned RP23

maxxis are ***......there I said it......they should just get specialized tyres and a black koki.......

seriously though, its not as tho Songo are using bomb proof UST tyres, they're on skinny 1.95" 540g tyres, that's light in anyone's book...

Obviously tubeless tyres are still prone to sidewall cuts/tears, but surely sealant in a tubeless setup would prevent punctures from thorns?

This is in specific relation to the loss of almost double the amount of time they were behind at one of the water points up until the end of the stage.

What I saw on the tv last night did not look like a sidewall cut to me. It look like the cut was on the tread/running surface.

Yeah. Was definitely not a sidewall cut.

Still a "choice of tyre" fault then?

Ok so what tyre should he have chosen this last year ive cut

2 Geax sugaro's

1 AKA

ripped knobs of a MNT king 2

Tread cut on a Rocket Ron

sidewall cut on X-king

I throw my tyres away the minute they get damaged but as you can see there is no tyre that will not cut, it could be as simple as a peace of glass, or sharp wire, or simply a sharp rock that cut the tyre, no peace of rubber is going to withstand that.

Just don't get your knickers in a knot.

I was asking if it was a tyre choice issue. Like most people on the thread assumed...

My knickers aint in a knot, what im saying is they could go out on 2 ton kenda nevegals, and it can still happen, karoo rock is a bitch they slice through anything.

Sometimes you just have bad luck and sometimes crap happens, its the nature of the beast.

Bulls 2 also just hit a flat they cant fix, any idea what tyres they are running and suggestions as to what they should be running?

People are going on about how they've not learnt their lesson, gone too light again, yadda yadda yadda.

But then we see the proof that they are running tyres with EXO Protection, which is a heavier tyre specifically designed to provide high abrasion resistance to sidewall tears.

Yet people continue to ignore this fact because they like to think they know better than the pros who eat & sleep this stuff every day. Kevin and Dave would have tested every tyre option, tried to account for every variable, and in the end we see they did opt for a heavier tyre for the protection they needed.

Apparently they should have followed Burry with a tyre like the Renegade Control? But those are lighter tyres than the Ikon EXO and have less sidewall protection. They're designed to be lightweight XC tyres.

Someone talked about the Schwalbe snakeskin technology. I ride RR snakeskins. Yes, they give extra protection, just like the Maxxis EXO Protection. But they don't guarantee that you'll never get a sidewall tear ever again. If I hit a sharp rock at speed and at the right angle, I'm going to shread my beautiful snakeskins.

Jeepers people, this stuff happens. Even to the pros. It's called real life.

Cool post, tombeej.

360Life failed because they did not have a 2nd team on the road, they should have known better. The Epic rules also suck why are you not allowed to replace the wheel or bike, but you are only allowed to take a wheel from another rider, it is a dumb rule.
