Is it me or is the spruit becoming a less and less friendly place to ride? I remember when most people you passed would exchange some level of greeting whether a nod or 'howsit' or 'morning' but it seems more recently everyone has an air of 'get the hell out of my way'.

I was having a discussion recently praising the high levels of comaradarie among mountain bikers but perhaps its reserved for the races or the epic with general good will and socialibility out the window on training or spruit rides.

How tough is it to say hi when we all just trying to enjoy the same sport in the same place. Heaven forbid anyone gets in some trouble and passing riders just don't give a damn.

Why is it an issue for you? If a complete stranger doesn't acknowledge you or greet back, so what.

People ride as much to be in their own space as to be sociable.

It really is a non issue, especially on such a traffic intensive place as the Spruit.

I'd like to think that when there is inevitable interaction on the trail as is the case of the spruit that the interaction is one that is friendly. Weekends are obviously family time and there is a diverse range of riders using the same space, why not be friendly...surely it should be the default.

I think your talking KuK and making an issue about nothing...

I ride the spruit almost every day, and I say hello, morning, hi, howzit to everyone i pass, from commuters to cyclist, runners, dawg walkers, to mtb'ers etc, and out of every 100 people maybe 1 or 2 will not great back, not that i can even for sure say they dont greet back because if you pass someome you simply might not hear them respond.

Close this thread because your being an a-wipe to even start it because it's simply not true. you seem to be the unfriendly one...

if i see you then i WONT greet you, ill keep my line and elbows OUT....

You must be joking... A non return of a greeting is unfriendly?

Seriously, you're taking this greeting thing too seriously. Mountain, molehill. Let people be.

Methinks he is trying to pick up a friendly girl, but all he gets is a cold shoulder or two ...

To the OP. just stop next to track anywhere and make as if there is something wrong with your bike and check and see how many people will stop and ask if they can help. You will quickly see how friendly and helpful most riders are on the Spruit

If you want someone to brush your hair, and pat your back, then MTB isn't for you. I've always found the Spruit to be super friendly. On a serious note, honestly never noticed it or had an issue on the spruit.

100% - if you stop and make like you have a flat I bet everyone will ask if you are ok...

I showed a few friends the route that I cycle to work on commute days. we entered Delta park just next to the school, and then up to the botanical gardens before we turned away for a moyo breakfast at zoo lake.

The spruit was on its best behaviour yesterday morning. mud-sections gone, all that's left were fast flowing tracks. With oak leaves everywhere, people walking their dogs, jogging, riding with kids.

Lots of people greeted us or smiled at us - it may have been because of the grins on our faces. 'twas a happy place yesterday.

I have found the spruit to be a freindly week end ride but the last few rides have been unfreindly. Maybe the roadies are training there i dont know but i always make an effort to greet and will continue to even if i dont get a reply.

I disagree, I've met roughly equal numbers of runners / road cyclists / mountain bikers who do not greet first, or back.

The only group that never greet back is motorists :(
