Just checked on Kalahari, they also have "The Lego Technic Idea Book". looks like fun for the slightly older kids

 

I've seen some Technic sets at 8+, but most of it is more suited to teens and older.

If you have children in school ( i think this is aimed at high school) have a look at this program aimed at school kids, http://www.fllsa.org/ its a world wide challenge involving Lego and their micro controllers, think Robotics... They have an international competition, in 2011 a South African team came 2nd in the world.

 

A couple of primary schools in my area use to take part in this. I think its awesome. I hope my son gets to also take part when he is older.

 

I've got a Mindstorm NXT at home and its been our father-son project to build one robot at a time. He loves it and he is only 6. I cannot wait to teach him how to program it as well.
