A lot has been said on the hub about the cost of events: value for money, Epic is expensive, rather fly to Europe and do Trans Alps - it's cheaper....etc.

BUT look at this one that is organised by Alex Harris, called the Everest Mountain bike tour. Stretches over 15 days and goes past the base camp. For only $7500 (yikes!) you can enter, get a personalised training program, a warm-up ride to Rhodes, a chef and with their contacts a cheap business class ticket to Tibet (yes flights are excluded from the tour price).....

So stop complaining about the Epic - let's go and fork out R60K excluding flights for a ride to Everest.... EINA

Hardly apples and apples though. I imagine organizing a ride at everest is significantly more in every way than it is to organize a huge race in CT? I immediately think of insurance issues, etc etc etc. Plus housing would be way more involved than a red Absa tent?

Not being a box, genuine question?

Did anyone see Supercycling last night, the last bit? Some downhill snow course, MTB's with spikey tires reaching speeds of up to 150kmh!!!! Is that even possible on a bicycle?

How can you even try compare Everest to the Cape :o

And yes, I still think Epic is overpriced! look at the Alps trip that Omegaman did last year for around 17k 12days or so

It's all just the cost to have an experience. I personally would rather put more of my money towards the experience itself than in the pockets of the organizers

Sure he was doing more of a DH freeride thing, but there is all sorts of riding to be done there

Totally true!

Ask 8848 here on the hub... everest is pricey... he knows, he's climbed it!.

That 60k+ cycling expedition is cheap compared to a climbing one!

The Everest climbing package cost my mate last year close on to $60k. Excludes airfares etc.

Totally believable. I've also heard figures of around half-a-mill

I got so bored within the first 15 minutes that I switched off and put on some music

With Epic you also have to pay your own flights.

This Everest Mountain bike tour seems to be better value for money at the end of the day.

That does seem like quite a lot to me. Just a thought. Why not try hiring a camper with 3 mates and follow the tour that way? food is actually quite cheap there (if you cook it yourself) and being in a camper you'd stay in caravan parks.
