Sani2c route profiles are out and it seems like they have dropped about 600 m ascent from day 2, I recall a post about Sabie experience being shortened. Are stage races being made easier to accommodate the masses ? I personally prefer a bit more of a challenge, interested to hear others views.

I also think races like 3Towers & Berg and Bush offer a better solution by offering a shorter version of the main race

there is a demand for "more friendlier" stage races,Dr Evil Classic incorporating karoo2coast will also be like this.My feeling's are that with the demands on people today with work and family commitments,it is getting more difficult to train long hours in the saddle.

The epic will always be the "EPIC"

I do prefer the easier stage races

Stage 1 of Sani is harder.than last year from a climbing point of view.

I think the reason that drop some of the climbs from day 2 is due to the daylight hours they have. The slower guys start later and have less time to finish. Too many people getting cut off from the sounds of it.

Agree . If you did not train for a race and you do not make it then tough !! Why must we "suffer" ?

Every race remains a "business" and the race will be tailored to suit demand. If the demand is for an easier race then the race organizers would be wise to adjust the race to accommodate people. Remember the organizers want to at least cover their costs and if possible make a decent profit for their efforts. They can't please everyone, and in this case, you.

Well I probably won't enter sabie experience this year, so I hope they gain another rider to make up for it.

All true if we talking about another race maybe !! S2C should not be driven by demand of a few woozie roadies !! They will always have more than enough willing riders that likes to suffer !! Why don't we just tar all the single tracks and put straw on turns , then everybody will be happy ??

there was a problem on day 2 last year, due to the daylight hours ,they were concerned about people being on the road ,and I can see the reasoning behind it.

They musy make it all harder, including Epic. Tired of my sport been taken over by the golfing crew! The guys at Sani must ride faster....

Freedom Challenge here I come.

Seems to be a lot of 'hard core' strong guys here. Surely like all races the terrain tests various skills - be it climbing, techincal single track, fast down hills or a flatter race with faster overall times and maybe more interesting racing? Are all races supposed to absolutely kill you (challenge) or is setting fast time (challenge) as important?

With the sani, keep in mind that if you make day 1 more difficult day 2 automatically becomes tougher due to your legs beeing weaker on day 2. Therefore, is the overall event really easier or did they just move the tough bits around to accomodate the shorter days?

Bottom line is for 90% it is still going to be tough and even a completed 3 day stage race for the average working guy is a great achievement. For the top 10% whether they complete the stage in 4hours or 4:15 is probably immaterial.

There are plenty races which are a sufferfest for those who are that way inclined I.e. Epic, Attakwas, 361 etc.
