R4.50 to R7 or more - BUT - that is based on an 18g double shot espresso - Nespresso is 7g, and if you do that, then R1.75/single.

I see. Thx

Just received a call to say my Simonelli Oscar and MDX grinder can be collected tomorrow. Yeeeeeehaaaa.

Too bad I am doing a ride to Clarence starting Friday and won't be able to use it.

Will be taking my Aeropress and hand grinder along. You won't believe the coffee in Frankfort. I think it is Frisco.

Lovely, getting mine soon as well. I assume you ordered a red one?

No silver. Not fussed really but my kitchen is mostly light with greys and silvers. Red would stand out like a dogs testical

Red flake looks lovely, silver was a bit bland to me but each to his own!

Post pics when you get em!

Soon as I get back from Clarence. Have just bought some Harrar. Freshly roasted. I think it's my favorite at the moment. Can't wait to give it a run through the new machine.

So my saving up to get an Oscar is about halfway there. :)

In terms of grinders though, what do you guys make of those Krups ones (R500) to use till I am able to save up for the real deal. It looks pretty cool to make do for now.

Edit: Just seen the reviews. I'll give it a miss.

Check out Seattle Coffee Gear on YouTube. They have a video on dialling in your grinder as a start. I assume you have a shot glass for proper measuring as well as timer? Or use your phone.

Now my troubles begin. Oscar in place and grinder all set up. Coffee is baaaaaad.

I assume you mean baaaaad as in 'not good'?

Most important thing is to grind and tamp so that the coffee comes out in a very thin stream, called a rat's tail, and takes about 30 seconds (from the time you start the pump) to give you a double espresso. If it comes out faster it will taste like piiiiiis.

Baaad as in flipping disgusting.

Sorted it out now I think. It may not be bang on but it is better than what I was getting. It was mostly the grind I think. Got a reasonable flavor.

The steaming is a disaster. This machine must be nuclear powered and on top of that the steam dial turns the opposite way to what I was expecting. Milk everywhere and burnt fingers

Takes a while to dial in a new grinder and a new machine - be patient... the grinder will improve after a few kg of beans too - usually they have some inconsistency for a while until bedded in.

You can dial down the boiler pressure a bit via the thermostat on an HX machine - running it at about 1.1 bar is enough for most uses - and needs less flushing too - this also drops the steam power somewhat - and you can block holes in the tip as well using a toothpick..

Remember - on the Oscar you will need to learn to flush the machine to get to the right temps - I will post a link later when I find the right one on how to do it.

Put some Phenergan cream on the burns if they are not too bad and the skin is not broken - available at your local pharmacy - that sorts out the pain a lot.

Thanks V12. The links will be most appreciated. My wife is already amazed at how much better our morning coffee is tasting so I don't mind being patient. Just not being a patient. I used lavender oil. It sorted me out.
