It was nice to have little hairy welcome me in near the finish

Looking better than when I saw you after the OV 24! Wat ratio were you running?

go out and buy a miniture bottle of squirt its like 30 bucks, and does wonders if you go through puddles and rivers to revitalize the chain.

Look I know its not a given to have lube at the water points. All I'm saying is not everyone of the 400+ riders is going to have a bottle of lube, not every rider has put wet lube on, not every rider knew they were going to ride through the Amazon two to three times, but the organisers knew how much water was on the route (and remember it wasn't raining on the day so how was people to know they were going to ride through so much water) thats all I'm saying. We do it on the Eselfontein race not every person uses but the people who do use are thankful. Not trying to say it was a rubish ride, I enjoyed it, all I'm trying to say is how they could make it better.

I was quite shocked to see that the Tru Cape fell on the same weekend as the Houw Hoek.

Clearly I don't know the whole story or organisers are not interested in maximising revenue. I would have liked to have done TRu Cape. It was one stern challenge last year.

For the record, Houw Hoek was awesome. The vibe an scenery were amazing and the fact that everyone was out there having a jol and not "racing" per se made it even more enjoyable.

I had the SS riding a 32:21t combo and she was fine till my legs failed me later on in the second loop. Then again not getting proper sleep for a couple of night leading up to the event and not taking food with never helped much either. I total miss calculated the time to be spent out there.

With the SS I lost a good couple of places in the beginning of the ride and lost time on the ST sections following slower traffic .... then came the long down sections and flat bits where I could just not keep up with the geared boys and girls.

Also had a nice tumble on a fast fire road section .... was a little tentative for a while on the tech sections after this.

All in all though it was a great ride and the SS was a nice way experience the TruCape.

So XTC1 .... are you riding again following your little incident.

They would supply on whomever decides to help "sponsor" the event, so if there were bike shops or lube companies associated with the race they would make lube available.

You "refering to all mtbers" as a mountainbiker should come prepared for any race. Have your extra bottle of lube, since it doesnt have to be messy and wet to need lube, all it takes is one river crossing to wash off your lube.

Make sure you have quicklinks/powerlinks/sparetubes/multitools/co2bombs etc its standard kit if you want to finish a race. This weekend again i had to hand out 4 powerlinks, thats R160 out of my pocket becuase a couple of numbnuts bikers werent prepared. I should have left them to walk.

Good work Hairy. Ya I've been back on the bike, against Doc's orders and much to the wifes disgust as I was only really meant to be riding the spinner...have only been riding the geared dually the last month or so...too sore to absorb hits on the hardtail on a trashed ankle and have to wait for it to get stronger before I can stand and crank out proper hills. Saw the doc for a last set of Xrays last week and he's happy...will be getting back on the single soon...can't wait!
