What is the best option when choosing replacement pads?

I am looking for pads for the new XTR 985 brakes, pads dont need to have those cooling fins on so any aftermarket brand will do. Just need to decide if I want resin or metal

depends on your riding style and what you prefer, resin pads have much better bite, than the mixed or sintered pads. I prefer them, yes they do wear quicker than metal, but in my experiance not by that much, and I prefer to have brake power rather than n pad that lasts,

That said, if its a wet race i do swop out my organic for metal pads, as metal pads works better under wet conditions for me.

Resin.

Metal pads make a noise and mine started squeeling. Replaced them, baked them in the oven, cleaned them, sanded them... nothing stopped it. Changed to resin and never had a days problem.

To me the braking effect is very similar, I can't say either one stops quicker.

Mine seem to have lasted quite long too, and I checked for sani, I still have half the wear left. I have heard that one very muddy day and they will be finished, but with normal riding I haven't seen excessive wear.

Not all metal pads are equal. It also depends on what brand of brake pads you decide to use. For instance Ive found that Shimano metal pads makes a huge noise and I have had much better success with alligator replacement metal pads.

Resin pads wear a lot quicker when riding in muddy conditions. If you gonna use this then make sure you take a couple of spare sets with.

I've been through a few sets of these new XTR 985 metal pads and I've been dissapointed with their short lifespan, they are expensive and IMO should have lasted longer.

I've replaced them now with Swiss stop Sintered metal pads and so far so good.

My Metals pads make a huge noise. I have since made one side resin and the other side metal. So in short the front has metal left and resin right. The back has resin left and metal right. Make sense?
