Thats the one .

it was my good mate Eldrons old SS that i managed to finally steal from him

Nice , I have a old Bianchi 26" HT that will be converted SS real soon.

I am also going SS soon but it will be a 26er due to the fact the training bike is that. I can see the bennefit of a 29er SS especially when on the longer flatter roads where you would be spinning like mad on the SS to get good speed. I would imagine the 29er helps generate a bit more pace on the flats......

nope, at the end of the day its in the gearing. Remember it takes a little more effort to get the momentum going on the 29er... so if you are tired it feels like you are dragging something.

The original law for building an SS was "you're only allowed to use stuff you already had" - that was the principle for Iron's bike. Man I miss that bike...

Nowadays it's all bling and bespoke items with SSers costing more than geared bikes!

I say go old school - beg, borrow and steal bits to make your bike - it gives it soul. So that's the 650b idea out the window!

If I stick to that I will have to build a 26". Mmmmm, decisions, decisions.

I'm well buggered then. I have been dreaming of a SS for a while. All I have is a broken frame (that I got from Rouxtjie), a stem, saddle and pedals... Need to get the frame welded and then start begging for parts... I am willing to pay postage if anybody has anything lying around :whistling: Think of it as an investment!

I agree with that 100%, however I have a barely functional MTB & a new steel frame. So had to buy/obtain the rest of the bike. Did just not make sense to buy/get second hand items. So bling it became...

Much as I hate the 650b format that would be my recommendation... My reason? Exclusivity! Sadly 29ers singles are like BMW "Individuals" these days - every arsehole has one!!

Why do you say "sadly", are you sad that you're no longer "exclusive"? There's been a lot of awareness to SS due to the SSWC, and many want to be part of what will, I'm sure be a great event. I think the "hype" will diminish after the event, but hey, as long as ou's are enjoying their riding, be it on a built from pieces banger, or a blinged out custom ride, it's all good in my opinion...

I went from a 26" SS to a 29" SS and didn't notice much difference between the formats........except for the traction that the 29" has.

Granted, I did buy my 29" SS frame purely on matching the geometry of my 26" frame, so apart from the slightly longer wheelbase and slightly shorter stem, the bike fit was just about identical.

To me the whole point of single speed is that nobody should care... I just look at the bike, if it has 1 gear then I have respect for the person, else not. If he has one gear and 29er wheels then I have respect and know he has money... It is about the feeling it gives you when you finish a ride in the same gear you started... like metallica says: nothing else matters

My 2c as per usual

Bull ... I have one gear and 29'er wheels, but the money seems to elude me.
