Ensure that there is enough "play" between the pedal and the cleat. Other than that practise clipping out.

Set the pedal tension to minimum and practice on grass. A lot.

You will still fall in the street and look like a numpty. It's a rite of passage into the clipless cycling world.

Keh?

As in falling off while locked in your pedals?

Ride on grass until you get the hang of it

With cycling shoes and pedals........

Skill.... which comes with practise and a few falls! Learn to clip and unclip while stationary and holding onto something. Then venture out onto the grass. The sudden stop after the fall is a lot more bearable than fallling on your tarred driveway.

youll be used to clipping in and out within the first 10 minutes of riding with cleats, the problem is when you stop out on the trail or at the parking lot and you forget that you are clipped in.

I struggled at first but it was mainly due to the cheaper pedals that came on the bike. When I upgraded my pedals, it was a lot easier.

Hope you get it right!

Also, loosen the pedals... so you can easily unclip. As you get better, tighten them until you are proficient enough to be locked in and not destroy any fish tanks :w00t:
