I dont know, we are already forced to rica bank accounts, 99.9% of people who have a drivers licence has a bank account, simply share that information with the traffic department, that way its less admin, less PT and it wont cost the taxpayer another couple of billion to have the traffic department change their systems / software and storage to facilitate a RICA type system.

Crisis! You want to give the traffis okes access to your banking stuff?

I don't think it is a question of disagreeing or complaining about the laws. I think it is more a frustration with the law abiding citizens trying to obey the laws and other people just finding ways around it...

The concept is awesome, and if it takes all the scrappy cars of the road, it will be awesome.

It just has to be enforced and enforced properly...

why is it every time someone disagrees with a law it's - "what about the taxis" or "what about the shack dwellers".

come to think of it, some of the worst drivers I see on the roads daily are the chops in their expensive german cars.

I drive a fancy german car. Thanks for calling me a chop.

I have been driving for thirteen years and have not so much has even had a bumper bashing.

My point is to be careful generalising.

You sure about that, covie?

Extremely next time you have a fancy ass car on your ass just brake test them, the guy in the BMW will brake the guy in the Taxi couldnt give a rats ass. Ive thought about getting an old landrover and using that to nudge taxis every time they want to cut it or stop on a red line.

Nope Rica is a seperate data center all the traffic guys have to do is get a link into the tablespaces where your rica'd information is matched against your id number, and maybe they will even add a colum on the dbase so that the traffic dept can add your drivers licence no and match that to your rica id and id number.

Point being the info is there, its already paid for by the guvment to maintain, what these stupid twits are doing is simply going to double information gathering which is litterally going to cost us the tax payer billions to implement. And i bet you tenders are going to bra sexwale's IT companies.

Funny. From the perspective of a motorcycle commuter, I find taxis far more respectful and accommodating of me when lane splitting than every single other road user.

Besides, go to any stop street, and count the number of cars that don't stop, and then count the number of taxis that don't stop. There's far more cars on the road, therefor far more car drivers breaking the law then taxi drivers.

You know me, always banging my "keep your own **** together before you smear everyone else with it" drum...

My oh my, but you have a lot of faith in a system built on corruption.

mainly because they have no respect for the law, they area public nuisance, and the d!ckhead in the fancy @ss BMW is actually bothered if you drive into him or he drives into you where the toyata menace is not.

oh, thats' why he's driving like a maniac - to avoid all the plebs in their inferior vehicles...

Roadworthy is about R 250 i think - that will mean R 10.42 per month.

Im willing to pay that to get the rest of the crap off the road any day!

Happy to Rica my drivers too - it will flush out some of the fly-by-nights

Agreed 100% - imagine how much less carnage on the road there would be if cars had brakes, lights and a fuel tank that didnt look like a 2l coke bottle

you right it was a generalisation - i also drive a fancy german car on occasion (my wife's). point is the oke in the fancy, shmancy car is (probably) educated and isn't getting paid by the no of passengers he delivers. he drives like a chop because he believes he is more important than the okes with cheap cars. (another generalisation)

I agree with the regular testing of cars. What I am whinging about is the pain in the ass routine that I (and other sad souls!) will have to go through to prove where we live etc seeing how I rent (with a pretty informal agreement, although we are here 2 years), Eskom is in landlords name, Telkom is in businesses name, etc etc, I dont have accounts (because of this!) and the fun goes on!

It took a lot of patience with the bank (the last option was for our branch manager to come out to my house!) to get RICA'ed so to have to go through this every year is just going to be another tedious example of bureaucracy at its worst!

True to some respects but now figure it this way lets say you had an equal split between normal road cars and taxi's on the road, you would have a reckless endagement on every street corner on every highway in almost every suburb of every town, we all know SA drivers are reckless and aggressive by default and by no means angels, but taxi's are death traps that simply doesnt care.

And the only reason they respect pedestrains, sometimes cyclists, are that the law takes hitting one of these way more serious than it does hitting another vehicle.

Lol TNT i have zero faith in the system but i dont see why us the poor taxpayer has to pay for 2 corrupt systems that does exactly the same thing.

On my bike (push bike) I find taxis give way more readily than most other commuters driving solo in the mobiles

Worst for me is those koogels in their SUV's - typically yapping on their cellphones.

Better than the ones trying to BBm or SMS while driving!

This is utter bull. I’m the owner of two sports cars; a '03 911 GT3 with just over 12 thousand km on the clock and a '04 SLK 350 which has done 69 300km and both cars are in absolute showroom condition. However, now I’ll have to drag myself to a damn test centre, have some illiterate idiot with grimy hands handle my cars and just sit there with nothing but a big fat smile on my face while I’m being ripped off and my cars abused?!?

Seriously, I’m SO freakin’ tired of this bull – just another fine example of our dearest leaders extorting the tax paying minority. Oh, and for what it’s worth…the local government officials have nothing much to worry about given their R1mil+ car allowances!
