I need some some tips on how to unscrew a seized pedal without wrecking the wole lot. I have applied some Q20 with brute force - but maybe just not enough?????

Oh, and yes I am turning it the right way - reverse thread.

Any tips welcome...

pedal wrench with a rubber mallet, two or three taps and it will be sorted, if not the right sized spanner with a hammer should sort it as well.

small butane blowtorch, (cape union sells a nifty lighter/blowtorch) apply heat to crank close to spindle. spray some more penetrating oil onto the thread, heat again and try to loosen as normal.

Sanity check! Reverse thread on left side - from riders position - standard thread on right.

Yep, got that sorted, still stuck.

Supporth the crank with some wood under where the pedal screws in - Take the rubber off the pedal spanner and wack it (the pedal spanner) with a 3 - 5 pounder - not took hard, its the shock that loosens it.

If you don't support the crank arm, the flex in the crank arm will make this ineffective.

Put anti-seize on the threads when you re-assemble.

Can you sacrifice the pedal?

If so, dismantle it and use a bobejaan spanner on the shaft

Also might look at taking the crank off and working on it in a vice

Be careful of heating it up whilst the bearings still in place

Puting it in a vice was going to be my last resort, but a bobejaan might be the way to go.

Little heat may help but dont over do it.

Ive had the problem once before and its not fun trying to get that pedal off, I eventually resorted to a hammer and some brute force with the spanner then finally it came off with a bit of swearing

I would not use a flame on it, but use a heat gun (Black and Decker) and heat allow around where pedal is screwed in.

They generate quite a bit of heat and remove bearings from alu castings ect. This will work.

Make sure the arm is well secure. You can burn yourself badly.

Good luck.... and remember..... You can Do It.
