Although the service at Lady Marmelade, the coffee shop at Rietvlei Farms, has always been slightly bad. They have really taken it to a new level today.

While I go for a ride, my girlfriend and my son goes and plays and feed the animals at the farm, when he get tried they normally go to the coffee shop.

She always complains that the service is slow and the food is, another topic. But today when I joined them they had been waiting 20 minutes with no help. I then waited another 10 minutes.

She begged me not to make a scene, so we just left.

Has anybody else have any bad or less bad stories about Lady Marmelade.

Dude- I take new riders to rietvlei all the time and whenever they suggest coffee I always tell them how rubbish the service is.

I will not support them as they are useless-not idea of customer service!

The owner/managers don't seem to care much though...

morning everyone... I am so dissapointed to read your comments. I unfortunately can't do anything about it. I have spoken to the owner but I see that it has not helped. Please don't judge us as part of it, different owners.

Morning Wendell - thanks for letting us know, such an easy thing to fix, because the food/coffee is not that bad, it's just the service that sucks.

And it makes you think if the customer service is that bad, then how clean is the kitchen/etc actually...?

I don't particularly enjoy any "foreign" surprises in my food...

Just go help yourself to whatever you like that you can see, if someone complains just tell them you were under the impression its self service.

Best thing Ive seen my old man do is know more or less what the total bill will get to, put the relative tip amount on the table in small denominations such as R10 notes if you're paying cash, and when the waiter returns tell him / her that thats their tip, when the service is lacking or a beer is empty amounts will be deducted from that tip.

Needless to say not one drink was empty and that waiter was there all the time checking all was ok, this method works all the time.

EDIT: This was done at another restaurant not the above mentioned coffee shop

@ Wendell

I'm sure most people know that you are not involved with the shop...

As we discussed - it's a pity you can't have a few tables outside on the grass by your enterance..Selling muffins & coffee...

Maybe show the owner these comments posted above and give her a wakeup call...

This is good to know, I was gonna take the wife and kids there while I ride some time. Not any more!

Dont , you will have one grumpy misses when you get back, take a picnic blanky and some chow and let them wait on the grass close to the trail start for you rather .
