Oh btw check out the forum for slx m666 vs xt m785 brakes in tech q&a section.

Here hey discuss the pros and cons of each..

Good luck with your decision , oh agree totally about not going for black crank..oh don't go for anything other than xt for the rest of the components too..xt is bomb proof..you won't regret.

What about SLX M675?

The changes from 666 to 675 is purely cosmetic upgrade or marketing.

The mbuk shootout compares m666 to m785 and slx overall winner that it even has 1 nm extra stopping power than xt therefore you do not compromise on performance for the additional 19g weight difference and 35% saving on cost.

I have m675 and IMHO you they are awesome,

actually it beat all of the brakesets(avid, magura and formula as well as other Shimano sets)in that shootout. It came out tops, and rightfully so. Great value, great brakeset

I love my XT's, got them on 2 bikes, with Icetech Rotors.

Have friends that had the new SLX's (had other bikes with XT's), just could not get use to them, take a liking and then upgraded to XT,

According to them, as much as they're told they're the same, they said they're not, there is something dif in there.

I'e got another brake comparison report, MBR Aug 2012 Brake Test, anyone interested, pm me your email address and I will upload it to Dropbox if interested.

As guys have mentioned before, there may have been something wrong with that specific set of SLXs.

I run both XT and SLX brakes on my bikes, and there isn't any notable difference.

I am running M675 SLXs though and have never used M666s.

M675 more readily available now as M666 are old models. But if you can find M666s there are some good deals to be had.

Having used both SLXs and XTs, I think the difference between even these two is mainly cosmetic...

Would be strange, they did not buy together, at the same time, of from the same supplier.

not arguing.

heheh, Would be strange again, to run 2 models, that is mechanically exactly the same, just plastic / cosmetic difference. Would go against model's ranges, features and price value benefit.

surely there must be something different, maybe last years XT, this year SLX, then whats the upgrades on this years 2013 XT's

G, hasn't it got to do with xt having free stroke adjustment and toolless reach adjustment. As well as being lighter. That being said, I have xt brakes and can echo claims on here. They're fantastic

M675 and M666 SLX brakes have tool free adjust.

Yeah - not arguing bud. Just saying, to the average Joe running the same rotors, there will be no noticeable difference between SLX and XT (unless you're looking at them on a scale).

Well, there isn't to me anyway. Perhaps I'm below average :w00t: .

Hi Bob i have one ten 29 with almost same build as u suggesting, in 2012 brake shoot out SLX won the only difference is the forged handle in xt ans a spring believe m the difference in price not worth it wont see significant difference.

I have Thompson layback post with gobi Kium saddle looked at droppers but jury still out on which great dropper ..altho reverb highly regarded but will wait..and see I believe this an area biggest improvement is still to come.

I too have a large and am 1,87m if that help..I'm very comfortable.

I have Arch ex wheels with saguaro TNT tires..feel secure not fan of pace star..rather snakeskin as someone else suggested..u don't want spend so much on a bike and the area that connects with the ground is slightly compromised..

I went for fox fork don't know specs..I guess it's my preference for fox ..

Oh yes lastly FSa bar and stem, bar I think 695mm ..personally I found it sufficient ..anything wider I found not to be comfortable.

My feedback on bike is ..wow..had anthem x1 29 was very happy with that never imagined a bike being better..the pyga suspension absorbs everything and anything u will ever encounter every ride will be pure joy..morewood definitely knows his stuff..we really blessed to have the privilege of owning a Pyga..happy safe riding

Thanks for your comments. I stuck pretty much with what I listed previously, except I went for a RaceFace Turbine seatpost instead of the Truvativ as it's lighter and I found it for a great price. I'm going to try an old 80mm stem that I already have to see how that fits before buying another one.

So far I have the RS Revelation RCT3 140mm (to be dropped to 120mm) fork here. The frame should be arriving today. Whoopee.
