Then go and have a look at where they put the three in relation to the back wheel....... (Hint:- The clock face should be on the same side as the cocks cogs ;) )

honestly 2.5mm is not worth the cost of a new crank... look at it on a tape measure and see if you really think it will make a difference... rather just select 1 gear harder if you feel you spinning too much....

jaa...but.....its a digital swiss watch and anyway i was using the non drive side as a reference and dont need no stinkin watch to tell me where the 3 goes...

Often peps think its better to go longer..thinking longer more leverage..more power yackity yack... me included i moved to 175 years ago 'cause what with long legs and all it was the right thing to do... :unsure:

dude, no offense, but I can hardly count teeth, now you asking me to use a tape measure with like mm's and cm's ?

 

Wait, you don't want to find your MTB crank length?

 

So how do you know what size you want to buy for your road bike?

 

Or you gonna buy a 172.5, 175, 177.5 and 180, and swap them till you like one?

I suppose I will have to measure and have a look. But from you guys have posted here it is most likely a 175mm.

Umm no rather not unless you really have to..... :whistling:

 

The crank arm length is already recorded on each crank arm, all you have to do is look closely and you will see one of the following 170 or 172.5 or 175 or some other figure that is the crank arm length in mm.

 

Look on the inside (the part that is facing the frame) of the crank arm, somewhere towards the end where the pedal is.

 

Wait... found a picture...now not all cranks will be exactly the same as the picture, but its just a guide to give you an idea on which side of the crank arm to look

Remember, your brain (as your ultimate regulator) anticipates a certain "feel" with a specific length crank arm and the moment you change that your efficacy of power transfer changes - it takes about 30 days for your brain to adapt to a new setting and to be at the same point of efficiency as what you were before the change. If, after about 30 days, your brain has adapted to the cranks but your set-up has been changed in such a way that it your brain perceive it as inefficient, you body will start to object through pains that develop.That is the exact same scenario as with fitting or removing Q-rings, that is what the research tells us.

You can definitel feel the 2.5mm incremental changes in crank length. Remember if you change your crank length, you set up needs to be tweaked too.

 

This is getting silly. Its a subtle thing, not like you go from 175 to 170 and then feel like you're overspinning and cant keep up, as though you're running out of gears.

 

Slowbee, if you select your 53 at the front and 11/12 at the back, I guarantee that you will not feel like you're spinning too much unless you're flat out on a downhill. Unless you of course have Andre Greipels legs, in which case you might opt for a 54.
