Best (safest) way to hang bikes up in the garage?

if you have to lift with your knees I think your bike might be a tad on the heavy side :whistling:

Then again, I dont have a gnarly DH/Trail bike like Sir Patches that might way slighly less than my XC tank

.

Don't worry Mr ... Patches is clearly joking as he surely can't pick a bike up now anyway after his little adventure overseas

We always just drilled 2 holes in the wall spaced according to the frame (Horizontal in those days as nearly all the frames had a straight top tube but the principle still applies to the more complex frames), wrapped some re-bar or any 10mm steel rod with foam / bandage / old tube and pushed them into the holes, worked well for years.

I used 2 hooks, I took an old innertube and wrapped it around the hook to act as a cushion and protect the rims 2012-08-19%252017.12.03.jpg

I don't think that this is a good idea hanging a bike upside down with shocks.

oh why what's gonna happen to the shock ? what if i lock the shock ?

Mate of mine with a Scott left his bike upside down overnight. Front shock went hard.... Took a bit of Googling and some patience to get it working again. No damage just a problem with the transfer of oil inside I believe. They weren't designed to be like that.

I am not worried about the marks on the rims. I am worried about the forces on that rim that could put it out of true. I know somebody that had an oval rim from storing their bike like that (Given it was a Makro special....)

Makes no difference if the shock is locked out. All the fluid and oil inside the fork it permanently on the top seals of the fork. Most likely won't do anything but Id still not do it.

Id be more worried about the brakes but that's just me.

The bike was designed to operate wheel side down. Store it like that.

does it count if its an air shock ?

it's been hanging for a few weeks and doesn't seem to have done any damage shock still compresses and recoils fine

and if these rims bend out of shape the shop where i bought the bike from has something to answer to, the crest rims are meant to be tough

hmmm maybe gonna have to rethink the bike storage ... i've got very limited space that's why it's like that didn't want to have to take front wheel off everytime I hang the bike
