New starting point for riding Breedt's Nek

I drove out to Hekpoort yesterday morning to ride Breedt's Nek. I always park at the Hekpoort garage, but was told by a security guard there that it is no longer allowed. He gave me a small piece of paper with directions to a place about 1km down the road.

Anyway, turns out a farmer just down the road (his name is Louis) has spotted a gap, and is welcoming cyclists to park on his property. He has built neat ablutions and says that by next week he'll have a small restaurant open.

He's even thinking about building a few small chalets to let out for people making a weekend of it. Really nice chap and I wish him the best of luck.

Now if only he could make that climb up the back of Breedt's easier...

Towards the gravel road? It is only about 845m to the turn off...

If you're driving towards the garage on the tar road, with the garage on your right, continue on for about 1km past the garage. The entrance to the farmers place is on the LHS, directly opposite a cash for scrap signboard. All that was up was a small A4 piece of paper with the name of the place (which I have forgotten).

You ride up a dirt road for a couple of hundred meters and park under the bluegum trees. He has a dude to show you where everything is.

Drove up and down the road yesterday looking for this place, eventually found it. The sign is literally an A4 piece of paper.

And for any of you that were wondering... the gate that you slide open to gain access to the farm, it is electrified

Yip I did exactly the same thing. Took me about 10 minutes to just find the place. :cursing:

I am suprised you are no longer able to park at the garage? A bit daft of the garage owner seeing how they have just built an tourist info kiosk there...! And the little OK they have built there will lose some money as well!

Yea that little bakery sold plenty on a sat and sun morning. Even more so when it's sani / epic training season. Oh well good on the farmer that saw the gap, maybe we can get a cold slice of melktert and a beer at this new spot...we can only hope

Breedts on a SS is very doable. Just pick the right gear ratios. Riding back down to the garage start/stop is a bit of a hassle as everybody is big blading it, and you are spinning your legs out of their sockets in your hill climbing gear ratio
