Saw a lady riding alone on Sunday, I wouldn't advise it! I was warned once by a farmer passing by about riding alone as he believed it wasn't safe!!!

Come join out group rides Sir M!

As I said :w00t:

On the plus side, there's almost always some idiots out there training.

Out of interest - how do most of you ride when you do Breedt's? When we get to the shebeen we continue up to the tar road, turn right and then take the first left onto a dirt road. We carry over the two climbs and down the other side until you eventually get to a T-junction with another tar road (42km from the start) Then we just u-turn for a 84k ride.

It would be nice to turn it into a bit of a loop rather than a straight out and back ride.

i know there is a route that takes loops around the dam - its worthwhile investigating it

i'll have a play around on oogle earth and post something if worthwhile

Oh my dearest MtbBarbie, I am neither fit nor strong enough to keep up with your group. :D

Thanks for the feedback. I believe that if the farmers in the area are saying to be alert then it's not a bad idea to be in a group.

I would say its not safe from an accident point of view as its pretty remote. The road is so poor I have been up and over lots of times during the week and not seen one car on my ride so if you take a fall you could be stuck for a while! But its busier on weekends.

What I have done, after the shebeen at the tar road turn R and go past your dirt road on the left (you come back via this road). Go along the tar for about 4/5km's and turn R onto a dirt road. Stay on this for about 8km's amd then take a L (if you miss this it's not a train smash). This will bring you out onto the R104 - turn L. There is a reasonable shoulder along this road into Buffelspoort/ATKV. There is a Spar type-shop in the town on the right where you can buy cooldrinks etc. Carry on through town (you are running parralel to the N4). This must be about a 10km sectio but the shoulder is good for most of the way. Eventually you will get a sign to Maanhaarrand - this I think is where you were turning originally. 100km's. This Magalies Meander map helps to put it all into perspective. http://www.magaliesm....za/mag_map.htm

I've done the ride before, Van Gaalens to the Shebeens and back, I'd definitely be keen too :)

SIR M, I might be more your speed! When you planning on going?

Most likely only at the end of the month. Busy recovering from something and Im still far from 100% again.

Would like to be able to break the 50km mark before year end.

I'm keen but only at end of Sept (29 or 30) to do long ride out there.

How about I put a Hub Group ride together for that weekend?

Depending on the size of the group and general consensus, we can break it up into varying distances ie

venue to the top of the climb and back (+-58kms)

venue to the shebeen and back (+-68kms)

and then there are various longer options ranging from 80 to 100kms

something for everyone

All hail Queen Bree!

Hey Nance! That sounds brilliant. Might even get me off my road bike as well!. If this is from where I think it is, I might even bring soap and towel along!

Footnote: Never let it be said that I hoodwink you into these hub rides over hallowed ground!
