CO2 Cartridges

I have done a Hub search but couldn't find what I need.  The LBSs tend to be quite pricey on the 16 g CO2 cartridges. 

 

I know air guns use CO2 cartridge as well as certain dive shops. 

 

Where can these cartridges be bought in bulk (say 10 or 20) at a reasonable (not LBS) price?  Are they manufactured locally and if so, by whom.  Can't we buy from the manufacturer?

Yes they are very pricey. The cheapest place iv found them is Sportsman's Warehouse. I'm also interested to see if you can buy them in bulk.

bbguns use them and painball guns the smaal ones. i know a guy that buys his in 50s frm potch i think.......

The BB- and paintball gun cartridges are smaller however (the ones I've seen).  So instead of using one bomb, you'll use on and a half, which is a bit of a mess.  If you do find 16g, please let me know though!!!

I buy mine (Rav-X) by the box - I think it worked out somwhere between R9 and R11 each.  Note: These are the 12g.  The 16g are about R3-R7 more per unit depending on where you shop.

 

Would rather carry 2x12g than rely on 1x16g.  The 12g will get you to 8bar and you may still have a bit left to boost someone in the bunch who's looking a bit soft.

 

I use the 16g for the tandem.

You are wrong it is exactly the other way around

 

as mtb inner tubes have a much bigger area that has to be filled with air.

Makes no difference -

the 16g is for the inexperienced techie who dispells 6g of CO2 before securing the bomb onto the valve . . . 

 

They do a 24g bomb for ..... no wait, let me not say it.

Bought 16g threaded Barbieri cartridges at Cyclelab in Nov @R15 each.

There is a guy on bid or buy who sells 12g co2 for R22.50 for a box of 4 (R5.63 each) claims to be able to get larger quantaties at better prices

Define pricey: some LBSs sell 16g for R 25.00

I found some at the local Sportsman's Warehouse at  R 139.50 for 5 (16g)

It still boils down to about R 25 per 16g cartridge.

I dont know where you ride wolverine but the roads I ride gives you at least 2 or 3  flats a month.  from nails, glass, wire, thorns etc etc.

 

I use Gatorskins and not even they are capable of withstanding the constant onslaught of puncture devices in the area.

 

So carrying 2 bombs is par for the course.
