Carbon vs Nylon sole shoes?

Hi all

 

What are your views or experiences with carbon soled shoes, are they really stiffer and stay so for longer compared to nylon soled shoes and is the price difference worth it?

 

I'm thinking of something along the Specialized range.

Spoke to Borat yesterday he says that when doing delivaries he finds that with carbon soles on standerd pedals there is no flex of the sole

 

Serious though carbon flexes nil nada zilch nothing, when you go carbon you NEVER go back.  Speaking from experience.  Rather spend the extra few???? rand and buy carbon

Definitely go Carbon, stays stiff and last a long time. This is especially true for the large shoe sizes which start getting soft pretty early on in nylon. I think the main thing about carbon is that it retains its initial properties. There are different set-ups too, some carbon shoes are designed with a little flex for comfort (like Sidi) and they stay that way.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Carbon in my opinion is definitely worth the extra price. Huge difference and a lot stiffer!!

I got carbon-soled shoes for the 1st time at Xmas and they're great for dancing in on a polished wood floor....if you take the cleats off 1st.

Other than that, I'm finding them a little uncomfortable, even after adjusting the cleat position a couple of times - is this the effect of "no-flex" do you think & does it get better?

 

I ride with my old nylon shoes on the IDT and I can feel my whole body smiling.

 

Oh, price diff. was R500, to answer the original question.

1hill, there is a difference in stiffness.  Saw that the other day when comparing a pair of nylon soled to carbon soled shoes (twisting the shoe).
