PYGA vs SPECIALIZED epic

Pyga looks so much like a Trek Fuel!

I might be wrong, but I think it is because both bikes have a similar suspension design. Both have the bottom shock eyelet mounted to a dynamic mounting point, and not a fixed mounting point on the front triangle.

But I have to say that on closer inspection the Pyga design is quite a bit different from the Trek especially when you look at the pivot close to the rear axle (not shown in the Pyga photo)

I also looked at the Tallboy, without a doubt a awesome bike, but the problem is the price. Tallboy frame- R 25k vs Pyga - R16k. So R9k to upgrade with

Have a look at the Pivot mach 429 there is an article in the Tread mag which is spot on with its review, I have one and it climbs like a beast and even better down the track, it has all the latest tech kashima coated rear shock, rear thru axle and a very special pivot systm frame comes in at about 2.8 kg which isnt light but much stiffer and quieter than my Anthem 29er

I have mine sitting at 11.7 kg without anything special XT group and Arch EX which are great wheels

dont get sucked into the numbers the best is to get test riding, the numbers are a good guide, my Pivot was about 20 secs quicker on one of the short trails, the one above boom slang mostly due to stiffness and no frnt tyre washout, the bike is very predictable

I know there is a demo bike in Hout Bay if you're interested

Anyone considering a Specialized bike will probably never buy a Pyga. Seems to be a rule.

And vice versa. Unless they are that rare beast that settles on a Stumpjumper FSR or Camber, and doesn't get buyers remorse.

Spez in my opinion would retain better value than the PYGA...Don't stone me for it!

The people selling second hand seem to think so but to my mind the proprietary shock should mean the opposite, very expensive to keep running. I bought an Epic new and it's by far the nicest bike I've ridden but I wouldn't consider it to hold value better than a bike like a PYGA which you can keep running without turning to the agents.

Difference is that if you buy the PYGA you wouldn't need to worry about it holding its value because you wouldn't want to sell it.

Yes, you're right actually. Those would be the exception.

Hmmmm, I'm not so sure..

All the 2nd-hand PYGAs (the very few of them) which have popped up in the classifieds have been quite pricey. The silver 2012 models from what I've seen command a good premium for something that's 2yrs old.

Thats because PYGA is acknowledged to be a very good bike.

PYGA is not for the Specialised type. The latter will likely drive a BMW and sit behind a desk telling other people what to do and then crap on them for doing what they were told.

The PYGA rider is a confident self starter, with an appreciation for real quality.

More than likley has a Rotel or McLaren sound system at home as opposed to the Spec riders NAD.

Likely drives a VAG product, and does'nt have a dog named Bella

I feel sorry for anyone who bought Rotel or NAD.
