Thanks Anton / JCZA - that works out neatly for me & hadnt heard of this one before. A few years back i worked out I was 180 on the gut-busting method of measuring. This has me at 176.3, so no need to go fast uphill and throw up to check it.

 

2.2lbs to the kg.

 

 

 

(p.s. JCZA - that would make you the messiah, but exclusively for South Africans?)

Your calculation sequence is wrong. Calculate this number first - ((age/2) - (0.2667 x (weight in pounds))), then do the rest. I've added brackets.

I get to a max HR calculation of 145

 

Thats definitely not right, Ive done rides where Ive been on 170 bpm for over 2 hours.

210-(32/2)-(0.02667*185)+1 = 190.1

age based heart rate calculations mean nothing if you've maintained an active lifestyle. Push to the point of blowing (long hills are best), and then use the max from that + 5 ....

Oh, and HRmax is sport specific... According to Polar HRmax(running) is about 15bpm higher than HRmax(road cycling). I've found HRmax(MTB) to be about 5bpm lower than HRmax(runnning) thumbup1.gif

thats correct, my formula is cycling specific.

use 210 - (age/2) - (0.02667 x (weight in pounds)) + 1.

 

most accurate formula for men.

Problem right at the start with any formulae based heart rate: 210 minus a few numbers means my heart rate will be less than 210.

 

My actual is 209 so either I have no age or no weight.

where are you getting your EPO from? heheh, kidding.

 

some athletes vary from the norm. you are one of them.

 

for the normal oke like me, the formula will be a good starting point.

When my garmin overreacts some times it's cause it's too loose ( does not happen often)

But that high is a error, slightly higher= over traing/ sick/the usual suspects so high is a error reading,

So my max is 193BPM,

i think that is a lot closer to what it should be.

I have done a max out test on my Garmin edge 500 and pushed it to 194.

 

I wasnt under any power lines or near any power at all when the 213 happened.

must have been because i was getting over the flu.

keep thoses interval training going, but dont over do it.

213 must have been interference of some kind. Unless you're having SVTs or other tachyarrythmias, its not the flu that caused such an elevated heart rate reading. You would pass out before reaching such a high heart rate.
