you mean having a pump in my back pocket for a boost is not common sense.

Oh yes, if someone is on juice for a medical reason in the back groups then so be it. I have no beef with that.

If you need the pump I won't be telling. Up to you really. I have a mate who runs comrades so high on pain pills I think he does it for the trip. Never breaks 9 hours so who cares.

Do as much research as you have into your diet. You obviously care about your health.

For starters: it's unhealthy, bottom line. Potentially fatal. And uneducated or misinformed people need to be told: don't drink 2 bottles of vodka then drive. No that extra vial of EPO won't make you even younger, faster or better looking, just deader.

Secondly it's unfair to other amateurs who get a kick out if beating you. Why bother timing yourself publicly if you did so unfairly. You are not getting paid either way.

For goodness sake read up on the law suits against Amgen for deaths resulting from legal EPO use.

Train, eat right, be healthy. Those are the parameters, use them.

Or not.

It's one of those: if you have to ask do what you smaak things.

No one really cares.

you list 2 reasons : unhealthy ( how is that ?, give research please) and potentially fatal. ( I pecifically said responsible use) driving in your car or on your bike is also potentially fatal ...

Do the research yourself, google is your friend.

on my first sani2c I had my first doubt that I was a doper.

I had fallen a week before the start, badly hurt my knee. During Sani I was taking pain pills, anti inflam pills and I took alot of them. I used them to just finish. But without them I doubt I would have finished. I am sure if I was tested I would have been banned from even walking into a pharmacy again, let alone the sport. The question I always ask, was I cheating ? Does not matter that we came 3rd last. It matters to me that I "cheated".

1. Can you take EPO as a recreational cyclist competing in a weekend race? Should they test you because you came 400th not your normal 500th would you be disqualified.

2. Would you take EPO as a middle to back of the pack rider in a stage race to give you a boost (are there social riders in the Epic etc using the stuff just to get through)?

EPO is a long term thing. You take it weeks before a race to boost red blood cell (i.e. Oxygen carrying capacity) quantities. Taking it in the middle of a short (i.e. not the TDF) stage race wouldn't help. You'd probably be looking for testosterone or something.

Let me know how it goes... ;-)

Slow, you have hit the nail on the head, what matters is what matters to you. If you feel like a cheat you are one.

I personaly dont have a problem with this. U did your training, you got injured and you battled through to finish an event. Your suffering was probably worse than it would have been. Kudos for completing. My problem lies with illegal supplements to enhance performance over and above genuine medical and injury requirements.

For tomorrow

Maybe I should start a new thread:

HGH - Wada, Sa intitute of drug free sport - why can I not use it - I turn 40 this week?

Is this a worth while debate?

There is nothing to stop you stop you using HGH and maintaining your youthful looks and abilities. See your doctor and have him prescribe it for you. Book an appointment with a orthodontist at the same time.

Do however know that it will give you an unfair advantage over fellow athletes and therefore know that you will not be able to compete in any sanctioned event.

SA institute of drug free SPORT says it all.

Slowbee, that's a nice description of the universal existential question about doping.

Based on your description of your first sani2c, if you were a pro TDF rider you would have tested positive for more than one banned substance. Your name would have been dragged through the mud, crucified in the world media, had journalists camping outside your house for weeks, called all sorts of terrible names, had your kids harassed at school, and so on.

And all the amateur riders wailing their crocodile tears about 'another fallen hero with no morals' will fail to see the incredible irony when they take their asthma pump and anti-inflammatories and pain killers for their next weekend race, describing - with a straight face to their mates - how they probably wouldn't have made it to the finish without it.

This sound like double standards to me. It's recreational use. Why does anybody care ? Caffeine, nicotine, cortisol, cortisone, sugar, dagga, the list is long. everyone is affected differently. you can make the case that all enhances the performance of somebody over another ... Get my point ?
