Holla trails

Recommended Posts

Okay, so round about the 28th my girlfriend and I are going down to Umhlanga for a week or so and since I'm missing the 24hr for this holiday I'm taking the bike with.

Are there any places to ride in the area and/or hubbers willing to include me on a ride?

Much appreciated. PS, I'll bring beer.

Isnt Giba like manicured though? and Holla has like over 100km of track? My guess is Holla would be the better one if training for a 24H. WIthout having been to Giba, Just from what I've heard.

There's a couple of places one should ride in SA and Giba is one of them, I haven't been to Hola trails only know about them.

Yes it's hand made trails but it's such a nice venue and I think it's the most fun I had on my bike in 2012 when I visited earlier the year.

Iv'e been to all the best trails in SA and can strongly recommend riding there. The terrain and course is so much different to what we are used to in Gauteng it's truly a fun challenge to go and ride out there and challenge your skills.

Would like to see what other venues are close to Amanzimtoti as I'm there for 9 days end of this month.

What trails are in Pietermaritzburg?

Would maybe try and fit in a ride the day going down to DBN.

Holla has around 300km of marked trail, ranging from easy 15k ride to an 86km ride with 2200m vertical gain, the red route is 30km's with of some of the best single track I've ever ridden, the yellow is 45 kms with great single track, purple is 25 kays of good fun, the marroon is 30 kays with some tough climbs, then there is the blue 25kays of great all round ridding, showers at the trail head, really well worth the visit, happy to join you for a ride, that's my valley and I'm lucky enough to live 4kays from Holla, you will have to try really hard to find better all round riding in SA tha Holla. The red route was featured in the most recent Tread mag.

Giba is also legendary, a must do.

www.hollatrails.co.za or find them on Facebook.

The South Coast has oribi gorge which is awesome and Burry does plenty group rides down the South Coast, follow him on twitter for info.

Did you just say you've ridden all the best trails in SA and ask what trails are in PMB in the same post? Fail ;)

PMB is home to the World Cup XC Course. The forests that this loop is based in has an extensive network of trails, mainly single track. Technical, tough and a lot of fun.

Surrounding PMB (which I include as they're all within 20 min away) we have Hilton, Howick & Karkloof all with a HUGE amount of trails that will definately be up there with whatever you've ridden.

If you like riding on BB grinding umgeni sand, go to Holla. I'll admit I rode there on a very wet weekend so things weren't that great.

Giba is lots of fun. Worth the trip.

Can also try Lake Eland. Rode there three weeks ago and it's great riding amongst the Game. Again, coastal umgeni sand conditions though...

So you make sweeping statements of a venue and then admit you rode once after heavy rains? Great review.

Hey Mack. Just providing my experience there. So if it's raining when the OP is here (which as its been, is highly likely) he can go to Giba. I think it's awesome that Holla has such an extensive network of trails and I wouldn't try and give a 'review' having only ridden there a handful of times. It's the coastal conditions though, same as Lake Eland - they're all great trails just not what I'm used to.

Didn't mean to offend. Perhaps you can give a guided tour when I next ride up there :)

Comparing whose local trails are better is like arguing over whose wife is prettier, no winner there. Im a Giba local, and love the trails, but I know them well which helps. We are really blessed to have such an awesome riding venue on our doorstep. I have always enjoyed Holla though, even the time I got lost. Different riding to Giba I find, but very happy to ride at either venue. The mamba alley section at Holla is sweet, just would feel happier if it had a different name...

All trails in KZN at the moment must be wet, just seems like its been raining forever.

I'll take you up on that since Holla is a lot closer than Giba. But think I'll probably give both a go (can't waste the opportunity.)
