Which mtb pedal to buy?

V12,

I am riding Suplest Cross Country Carbons- not on the cheaper side of shoes I have seen and they fit exceptionally well. No pressure points under normal riding, stiff as well but dear mother of all that is holy, I nearly took them off today at Jonkershoek on the final stretch of the our climb.

Only thing I could think of was to replace pedals as it is on my list of things to eventually change but now I am wondering if I should not look at other shoes as well...

My wife is going to cursing.gif

I don't know those shoes at all, so I can't comment on them.

The place you want the sole stiff is across the full width of the sole above the pedal - it needs to be stiff enough to prevent the pedal pushing through and creating hot spots/pressure points on your foot.

There are other issues that can create a painful foot too and these need to be eliminated - if I can make a suggestion, look up a podiatrist in Cape Town - Chris Delpierre - nobody else.

Take your shoes with and let him help - he knows what he is doing - follow his advice and I am sure you will get it sorted without new pedals (maybe he prescribes new shoes....) maybe he sends you back to me for an amputation.... :)

Looks like they are throwing in a new set of pedals with the bike i buy. I am ashamed to say that it is eggbeaters but at least it is free. When these give issues in a couple of months i will toss them and probably try the Quartz

Thanks for all the input guys. At least i made up my mind on my next pedalsthumbup1.gif

My Shimano 540's were faultless in the mud at Rietvlei. My next pedals will be the 530, only because the wider platform interests me, but that might only be in ten year's time at the current rate of reliability...

Anyone tried the new eggies that run bearings and not bushings?

Should be way more reliable

If i understood correctly the eggbeaters i will be getting has the bearings and not the bushings. Friend of mine seazed a new pear of eggbeater (with the bearings) on the Pioneer. Maybe just a "dud" in the batch........

Probably not, my mates have seized 8 pairs of CB Candy's between them. It's no fun 20km into a 60km race...

The issue with CB pedals for me is there is no warning signs...they work fantastic one pedal stroke and self destruct on the very next one.

Eish OK. I know that the "3" model is the 1st one in the range to have dual bearings, as the "1" and "2" models have bushings or bearings and bushings.

I bought a set of the "3" candy pedals that I still want to see if I can exchange for the eggies. So have yet to see how they perform.

I never had issues with my eggies, save a rebuild or two in the few years I had them.

But then again I didn't ride that hard/long/often as many of you do...
