Carbon fibre damage

Chain skipped off the front DR and chipped the paint (10kms into the DC).

 

I doubt Specialized will replace, as it's probably a setup mistake and I'm defintely not replacing the frame. Just some resin and paint and another protector sticker for now.

 

The weird thing is that the protector sticker thingy looks like it's in the wrong position...

 

What do you guys think?

I used my wife's clear nail polish...

I had the same problem, my protector plate actually ripped of. therefore i think they have moved it backwards.

so iv you get another protection plate, let me know, or get me one 2. i will pay.

I suggest taking it to a lbs and let them inspect it. Worst case you can take it to a carbon repair place and they can fix it and the bike will be perfect.

In my line of work, we do a fair amount of destructive testing on composites, and the one material i would not mess around with is Carbon. (hence the fact i wont buy a carbon frame). When things are going right, carbon is hard to beat, but when you get a small crack that can propagate, just one small bump is enough to for all hell to break loose.

I think you should get it checked out. Sometimes we even get frames x rayed because a lot of cracks could form in the bottom layer and you would not even know about it.

Yeah, I know it will be fine. Just the paint that came off.

 

I have been looking for those plates, but to no avail. They are actually alluminium and shaped to fit the frame, so not sure if you can buy them. I did get a very thick and hard plastic sticker to put over the area.

 

I will let all you haters know how it goes a year down the line!

Chips are ok..... as long as it is Simba ...... they roarrrrr with flavour. Worries me though...... that chip mlooks like crinkle cut!!!!!!!!!!
