Cheap & nasty way - get a piece of square tubing/round bar from builders. Drill to same centre to centre distance as the extended shock. Paint nice colours. Replace shock with nicely painted square tubing/round bar.

 

Not too sure what it'll do to the lugs on the frame/dynamics of the frame when impact occurs....

 

Ride at own risk....

yoh! make sure your medical aid is topped up ;)

 

Just pump the rear shock right up.

Not too sure what the max pressure rating is on a shock. You might run the risk of blowing out the seals on a trail and then you'll have to limp all the way home.

 

With a hardtail of sorts then too...

Pump the shock up to the max and set all the damping adjusters to full. That way even if it compresses the damping will only let it move really slowly. Or get a 2nd hand frame. Probably cheaper than replacing your damaged shock later when you want to go back to rear suspension after your knees give in!

buy a HT , not a good idea to mod , pump shock rock hard ect . all you going to do is wear the linkage bushings out at a hell of a rate as they will not have any give and end up with lots of play in the rear swing arm .

thanks guys, getting a new shock and will have to settle for lock out setting, Ricky Bobby you are right, you stand the risk of limping, guess that is the price i'll pay for having the dual susp or should we carry two of everything, like on the Ark? My feeling is.... the less you have that can go wrong.. the less will go wrong, hardtail makes more sense!
