As SM said. BMI is worked out according your weight vs height ratio afaik. Muscle is heavier than fat also so BMI could be wrong in terms of optimal ratio. Keep your body fat below 15 % and you good. Top athletes keep below 10%. Your body also needs fats to function. You're 17 don't worry your head too much about stuff like that. Enjoy your cycling and don't burn out before you 25.

Thanks. since I've started cycling this year my body fat has fluctuated a lot. Been 14% then 11% then 13% now 10%. Enjoying my riding a lot, hoping my knees won't give way before 25 thumbdown.gif

As mentioned earlier, anything below 10% is very good. It's probably better to think in terms of your optimal race weight based on your height.

Optimal race weight constant = weight(kg) x 2.2 / height(m) * 39.37.

Pro climbers have an optimal race weight constant of 2

What is the Optimal BMI and such for a cyclist ?

Here's my current details :

Weight - 61.8 kg

Muscle mass - 31.3 kg

Body fat mass - 6.2 kg

Body fat % -10 %

BMI -21.38

I am 17 years old. 170 cm tall.

Does fat not affect Performance and recovery ?

Thanks.

I dont understand the last part of formula. Weight(kg) multiplied by 2.2 divided by height(m) and * 39.37
