Lance Interview

I think you have it spot on mate.

I would agree that Lance is certainly incredibly self centred but not selfish, He really puts a lot into his staff at the shop (according to a mate of mine who lives in Austin and shops there) and still does cancer advocacy work albeit very low key. It's probably the one area where he true regrets is how this affected Livestrong.

I do get the impression that he like to surround himself with challenging but submissive people (both Anna and George and even Frankie) so that he doesn't have much conflict.

I can understand why he wouldn't want team mates who also want to win at his cost. He's the leader. Which boss would want a subordinate that also wants to be the boss?

What project manager would want a team member trying to outdo them in project delivery? His approach was very corporate, cold and ruthless. I can see why He was useful to the brands that supported him and why they turned a blind eye while the dollars rolled in

He smouses a new bike brand now called Ventum. Looks like any other aero frame bike.

Lance and Jan might have been big rivals but I think they always had a lot of respect for each other.

I think the fact that Ulrich once waited for Lance after he had a mishap during a stage of one of the Tours they competed against each other also played a role. If my memory serves me right Lance once waited for Jan too.

I was not surprised with Lance's viewpoint of riders within his own team who had illusions of becoming leaders or co leaders ...... " They know where the door is"...    :)

Imagine Froome or Bernal or Thomas ever say something like that.

Damn straight man. Cycling for a living is hard af, now you want to throw it away because you're feeling strong for a stage or 2?
