Hi guys!!

Before pulling the trigger on either a FR202 from Flyxii or a FM056 from Hongfu I've got some questions with regards to weaves/finishes.

Firstly, 3K Vs 12K Vs UD what is/are the differences?

Can you get matte and gloss finishes in either types of finishes? And does this just mean that for the gloss finish there sa coat of clear sprayed over?

Out of curiousity, which is a popular finish?

looking forward to all the answers and maybe even close up pics of the finishes/weaves

Thanks!!

3K is a fine weave, 12K slightly coarser and UD (unidirectional are made up of sheets with unidirectional strands.

Most frames consist of the same build underneath the top layer and the 3k or 12k are merely applied as a "last" layer for cosmetic purposes. This will obviously change from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Gloss is as it says gloss finish (like a polished look) whereas MAtt is matt sorry but that's really just what it is (slighty dull looking finish).

I got the 3K finish as that is what I like and did not want to paint the bike but I know that UD is very popular as it looks nice when painted since there is no "carbon look".

Hope that helps a bit...otherwise .... Google is your friend ;)

Hi Hubbers!

I'm in the process of ordering a 650b frame from HongFu and would've gone with the 16", but realised that their FM136 frame's geometry has changed.

I am currently riding a 26er frame with C-T of 410mm and ETT of 560mm with a 100mm stem. Should I go for the 16" which now has a slacker HTA than the 18"?

I think you could go with either and then adjust the fitment using different length stems. e.g shorter stem with the 18" and longer with the 16".

Your style of riding and terrain will determine which HA will suit you best.

That's my opinion anyway.

I have this frame in 16 inch. Pity you are not in Johannesburg otherwise you could have taken it for a test ride.

Previously, I rode a 15.5 inch Specialized Epic. My height is 169cm. The fit is perfect. It is a bike I feel very comfortable on and have been very competitive in some recent races.

Will post pictures when I get myself organised.

Thanks for your opinions and also for offering a test ride!

I think I will take a risk and go with the 16" frame. Will report back as soon as I have something rideable.

Looking forward to the pictures Natural Defender.

Hi Guys,

Please can i have your input.. i was going to order a Aero road frame from Hongfu but someone told me that they had some minor issues with the quality. He got a slight hair crack on the seat post (not sure if its through)

and also that when he's climbing it feels that the frame slides side to side… like if it would slide from under you.

Anybody have the same experience? this is a FM139
