Yes I would also like to see what the results would show especially in different 'levels' of athletes that have been on LC, for example someone that has been on it for 30days VS a year.

I thought that I would be able to do Saturday’s 42km MTB race on only water but on the halfway mark (and at 90% of max HR) I found myself at the waterpoint downing 2 cokes and half a banana just to give me something for the legs. I still need to figure the amount of carbs I need to take at the different intensity levels before it is too late and I have already bonked out.

So on Sunday I thought I will take a banana, biltong and almonds with my DC training ride, about 110km at a fast past (had bacon and 2 eggs for breakfast). But bonked already at the start of the first climb only 30km’s in before there was even time to snack on something. The remaining 3 hours was even worse. Fuelling on the bike used to be so easy, oats before and bars/enerjellies during….!

What about that ucan product? Has anyone tried it and where did you buy it?

Marge, scroll back a couple of 100 posts, I posted the UCAN person's contact details there ;) (just search this thread for UCAN).

You need to keep in mind that you have not allowed sufficient time to adapt completely to fat burning, therefore on the more serious rides you will have to supplement with carbs from early on. It takes about 4 months of riding at varying intensities without carbs for your body to fully build that fat burning engine.

edit : found the UCAN details

The Wolverine diet: How Hugh Jackman went from slim to super

His diet included lots of protein (eggs, fish, chicken), vegetables (spinach, broccoli), carbs (oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potatoes) and fats (avocado, nuts, peanut butter, olives) but excluded all sugar, including fruit and alcohol.

“He ate protein every day, but to maximize results, we’d cycle his carbohydrates. On weight training days, his first three meals would be carb heavy and the last three would include lots of healthy fats.

On non-weight training days (Saturday and Sunday) he would skip the carbs and just have healthy fats,” says Kingsbury.

I've just come across this homemade biltong drier (was driving behind his branded car so googled him).

Reasonable price, and they deliver nationally.

I'm more interested in making one myself out of wood with my dad. Gives us the opportunity to bond a little as both our hobbies keep us occupied on the weekends, me cycling and him flying.

Mmm... that does present an interesting alternative to the wooden casing, but wood holds a certain authenticity and charisma - my dad had a wooden box that he used as a smoker back in the day and I think back to that fondly.

Marine ply is on order... ;)

Some more interesting perspectives:

"It's the fruit man !"

Impressive. I guess if you cycle on average 7 hours per day, each day for a month, you can eat whichever fruit you want without caring about insulin, calories or any of that <_<. But this guy is very impressive, being able to do all this without stimulants
