I'm going to try and be there on Friday (if I can move my standing 09h00 meeting)

Who else pledge an hour or two of their time?

JOIN US AT THE KUILRIVER MAGISTRATE'S COURT ON 8 SEPTEMBER

After a four-year long court battle, Geoffrey Merrick - the accused in the hit-and-run incident which led to the death of Dr Koos Roux on Bottelary Road in Kuilsriver - has been found guilty of culpable homicide as well as three charges of not complying with the rules of the road. Sentencing will take place in the Kuilriver magistrate’s court on Friday 8 September. Please join us at 09h00 as we stage a silent protest outside the court and show our support to the family. (We will be handing out some posters for those who do not have.)

I hope a good example will be set.

Not holding my breath.

Slap on the wrist, naughty boy, don't do it again, and off he goes home to his wife and kids.

The Dr. on the other hand.........

True.  That would be my normal response.  But there was that other verdict earlier in the week that gives me some hope.  Let see.

No matter what the sentence, its all to ill effect if the media doesn't cover it to make the general public aware that they do stand to be held responsible for their reckless driving.

Mr. Merrick's license was revoked for 6 months, and he got a three year jail sentence.

Not exactly a deterrent....

Is this effective jail sentence or was it suspended?

Hope it is effective jail sentence

Well if it is an effective jail sentence it is more than I would have bargained for.  I would have like to see a sentence for manslaughter and then a hefty sentence for leaving the scene of an accident.

Surely your license should be suspended for longer than you are in jail? You cannot really do much driving in jail.

Lisence revoked for 6 months?? that's an inconvenience, not a sentence. I hope that 3 years jail time is effective and not suspended and I hope he serves the whole term!!!
