I've never been able to tell the difference between one 20mm front hub and another. As long as it has decent sealed cartridge bearings which are easy to replace. Any of the reputable names and you should be fine.

Rear hubs though...well that's another topic all together.

Here, local is lekker.

Hi guys,

So I have ordered my new bike, the Giant Reign 2 (2016 model), and will get it sometime next week. First time I'm going to have something more than 120mm travel and that burly! Can't wait!

Are there any technical bits that I need to be aware of in terms of suspension setup on these bikes? Any advice you can give?

I am 1.82cm tall and weigh 85kg's.

I have the 2015 model and about the same weight as you. Add 2-4 volume reducer bands in the Monarch and a token or two in the pike, then you can run a bit lower pressures without bottoming out.

Take it to RBC Robs Bicycle center in PE and get him to attach his newfangled electronics, go for a ride, adjust, ride and be happy...

I have the 2015 version of that bike and I weigh the same as you give or take.

Out of the box the suspension isn't great. My bike has 1 token on the fork and 2 bands on the rear. I like my bike a bit stiffer than recommended.

With the fork I'd prefer a bit more ramp up and a little more small bump sensitivity. I think an extra token would do that for me. It feels pretty good at the moment but I've felt other bikes that feel much better.

On the rear I've never been happy. The rebound is either a little bit too fast or too slow. So I run it a little too fast and watch my body position so I don't get bucked. I think I could pump it up a bit more and make it 1 click slower. I also think I should run another band for more ramp up.

So I'd say 2 tokens up front and 2-4 bands on the rear.

I weigh about the same and been on the Reign since 2005. I'll be honest, I preferred the Manitou suspension on the 05 but the fox with small canister is doing the job.. Agree with Duane, a snappier rear end is quicker out the corners.

The Fox36 on the front helps too

I'm finally happy with mine after swapping the debonair can for the normal air can on the shock. This reduces the volume sufficiently to allow me to run a decent pressure in the shock (200 psi instead of 300 psi) and the difference is huge. More mid stroke support (means its poppier and less likely to blow through the travel) and it ramps up very nicely.

I'm 106 at the moment. My recommendation is to put as many bands in the shock as you can, both in the positive and negative chambers, so that you can more effectively tune the performance through air pressure without pumping it up to silly pressures. The larger volume air can really isn't suited to the reign in my opinion.

Fork - still playing with a couple things but I have the dual position pike so it's a bit like having one token in the normal fork. Have it mostly where I want it now though
