gummibear Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 There has been talk of top riders using a bike other than their sponsors', but they're rebranded to the sponsors' livery. I think most of the guys are pretty happy with what they ride but i have heard a few guys say that they would prefer to ride DA than Red .Most are on custom geometry frames anyway.Look at the wheels they ride, that's where i have seem more of the mislabelled stuff.
dracs Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Today is going to be riveting. Anyone wants me to do anything this afternoon is in for a big disappointment. Now where is that yellow shirt?Yup I am ducking at 1.30. Not everyday you get to watch your countryman defend yellow at the Tour. HappyMartin 1
Tumbleweed Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Didn't Kepler Wessels play for South Africa and Australia as well? He did indeed. Steven Knoetze (sk27) 1
eeeek Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 (edited) that is exactly my point.....if Froome would have been claimed as the 1st African then....then he was actually not, due to that French dude who was born in Casablanca and lived there for the 1st few years of his live. So yes, I think all the news people got it wrong...well the ones saying "1st African born" (or something like that). The should go with the flag that is against the cyclist name, not where he was born..... As far as I know (it works like this for most sports), once you played/raced for a certain country you cant go and race/play for another country at world level. Or am I wrong? (So Froome will never be able to ride under African colours again..) The ones saying first African born, are wrong for sure, Froome is a tricky situation since his situation was similar to Virenque in that his parents were foreign nationals living in Kenya at the time he was born, the differences start to filter in when you realise that his mother was Kenyan-born, who moved back to the UK, and then later but before Chris was born, back to Kenya with Chris' father, a Brit through and through. Chris then moved to SA while his brothers moved to the UK for schooling. His first international competition was as a Kenyan under a Kenyan passport from a Base in South Africa. I am not sure what his parents movements were, if they returned to the UK, or remained in Africa, but Chris certainly considered himself African and maintained it as his home. And despite now living in Monaco, returns to SA for training every year. Virenque, on the other hand, moved back to the South of France at age 9 and never again gave Africa more than a cursory look. The only reason that Froome moved back to a British passport was for an Olympic berth, same reason as Zola Budd. You may not be able to define him as South African, and it becomes tricky, with that little flag next to his name, to define him as Kenyan... But he is an African for sure. All of which is irrelevant - since he is not the first African in the Maillot Jaune - Impey is!  Edited July 5, 2013 by eeeek
Warren_G Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Daryl in yellow?????Daryl Impey porte le maillot jaune! The first South African to don the famous yellow fleece:) Super proud to be a South African cyclist.

I remember seeing a pic of Blem stripping decals off Cav's bike.

HappyMartin Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 You don't get to be a competitor without being a bit fiery and that goes triple for sprinter temperament. Cav chucking his toys after the adrenaline dump of a crash, solo chase back and then sprint is the nature of the game. If he was an " Oh well no worries" kind of guy he wouldn't have all the wins he does. Sure he chucked his toys but he said nice stuff about Daryl afterwards. He was also very friendly in the midst of the 2011 Tour to a mates young sons. One of which is now representing SA at junior track worlds in a months time.Good enough for me. GaryvdM 1

Can be argued 2 ways, he also shouldn't crack under pressure. Best of to mates son, very cool

Team let him down, should have paced him back and the lead out was poor.
