Signed up for both 70.3 and full. Would not miss the 10th anniversary for the world. I think the full might be a full house in 2014.

I read somewhere that 70.3 already has over 1000 signed up.

Without a doubt the best organized event in South Africa

What do you guys think of the changes to the swim?

Hardly a change, just you won't get swum over by the Pro's on a mission. Although I think that is more for their convenience than mine.

Indeed. But by April next year I will be a sub 60min swimmer

what changes are there

Changed to a 1.5km and a 2.3km lap instead of the 2 x 1.9km laps. As Dave and Garfield said, not much of a change. For me personally I think I'll have to pace properly and not go full tilt on the 1st (shorter) lap. The 'back' stretch on the 2nd lap will feel super long at allmost 1km.

This year i was definately quicker on the second lap, because as the field started to spread out, there was just more space to swim in. I wonder if this change will have any impact on how quickly you hit "open water"? I think the 1km stretch might actually be quite nice.

I've entered my first 70.3 for Jan, looking very forward to it. Did Bela Bela last year and have entered that this year too. Toying with the one in Germiston in November. Spoke to the organisers and they said the water in Germiston Lake is up to scratch, so should be safe.

As a non-swimmer, my initial target when I did IM in 2011 was not to get lapped by the Pro's on the swim. Thankfully, I just managed to pull it off. :)

A 1.5/2.3 split will make that challenge for similar non-swimmers, all the more easier.

Quantify "up to scratch".

I have done triathlons at that venue when the water was supposedly tested and it was siff. It smelled like sewage and there where like condoms and stuff floating around everywhere.

But ja, I am also looking to do the Germiston race in preparation for hald IM at Midmar 1 December. Now that is going to be one hot hot race.
