Medals not a biggie for me personally

BUT

giving medals to only half the field? Now there is a bad idea if I ever saw one..... Organisers deserve every little piece of abuse they get regarding this

All or nothing I would think

Since my first post, I have been thinking long and hard why we had to fork out the ridiculous race fee, there was not one single waterpoint on the 32 km route, limited medals and terrible organising. I know a lot of people complain about ppa events, but I cannot wait for the weekend ride in Wolesley. At least I know everything wil be up to par and I wont have to fork out massive amounts of money to ride.

I cantacted them last week and asked about the waterpoints and got told that there will be one on the 45 at the 30km mark where med and long route splits.

Something just told me to pack my camelbak rather on the day and i was glad i did as the water point never happened.

Dont think ill be back again.

If I'm not mistaken he announced just before the start of the race that the traffic cops never pitched so his "water table crew" had to be put at certain points where we crossed tar roads...

ps. the water in the streams were drinkable

There seem to be 2 opinions on the event: those that enjoyed the race and in their opinion felt the organizing was good, and those that did not enjoy the race because of the absence of water points, the majority of who thought it was bad organizing. Judging by the feedback so far, there were more people that enyoyed the event and felt the organizing was good, compared to those who did not.I am willing to take the blame for the absence of water points (whether the traffic pitched or not), and can guarantee that there will be at least 2 water points for the 2014 event. As for those that felt that the entry fee was expensive: when you do not have a sponsor for your event, you need to cover costs in another way, one of which is to push the entry fee up slightly; also bear in mind that if you did a Late entry, then it cost you R20 more. Please note that we also had to pay Cape Pine (Forestry) R22.80 per person (!!!), a cost we did not incur in 2012. However, there seems to be a general consensus that it was a great course(s), which is good to hear, since I put so much time & effort in laying out & marking the course.

A factual comment on the medals: we initially had 500 made (they cost R8 a medal by the way), since without a sponsor is quite an expense. On Thursday, we decided to make 300 more, since the Pre entries had closed on 570 the night before. In other words, we had 800 ,medals, so we had enough for 90% of the field (I actually have some left over).

I wasn't there  . Only commented on the claim that half the field got medals. Apologies if I got it wrong!

Been trying to do this one for the past couple of years now, just never quite happens, always something coming up.

One of my first MTB races I did with my Sons. If I remember correctly, there was a 2km tar road portion. But the route prob changed by now.
