WINTER RIDING & RUNNING ON SCENIC STELLENBOSCH TRAILS

Die Burger MTB Challenge will take place for the eight year in 2013 in Stellenbosch on Saturday 3 August. This year organisers have decided to bring a brand new Trail Run on the Sunday to outdoor enthusiasts, so that families can make it a real Stellenbosch weekend!

The event, which is renowned for its challenging and picturesque routes, will be held in association with the Simonsberg Conservancy and will boast five scenic mountain bike routes to cater for all levels of riding.

DATE: Saturday 3 August 2013

VENUE: Eikestad Primary School, Stellenbosch

TIME: First start at 08h15, last at 10h00

Mountain Bike DISTANCES:

  • 15km funride for children & novices.
  • 30km funride for beginner riders
  • 42km challenge for intermediate, but fit riders
  • 60km challenge for advanced riders
  • 75km invitation race for top riders

Meurant Botha of Dirtopia, who has been designing and maintaining mountain bike trails for over ten years, says that the routes will pass through more than 60 farms in the area, giving riders the opportunity to tackle some of the best and most beautiful trails in the country. Two distances for the runners on Sunday around the Stellenbosch area.

At the finish line there will be kiddies entertainment, food & drink, medals to all finishers, and make sure you stay for prizegiving & the lucky draw.

Entries will open on the 3rd of June and close on 19 July, or as soon as the 4000 entry limit is reached.

I've done a whole bunch of these, over several distances - and always enjoyed it - like a pig enjoys mud (no pun intended)- I've never done an even remotely dry one - maybe this will be the year?

Great race, but really really really hope they try and separate to some extend all the distances finishing together, seriously, especially having half of Cape Town's population squeezing underneath a little bridge...

4.2 How do I qualify to race in the 75km invitation race?

If you did not receive an invitation via email, you can send your recent mountain bike results to arina@dirtopia.co.za and motivate why you think you can make the cut-off time and complete this technical marathon.

You need to reach the split at waterpoint 4 (Delheim) by 10h50 or you will be send home with the 60km riders.

ek lei af hulle wil net seker maak die ouens wat inskryf sal actually die cut-off kan maak.

Like with the Argus MTB I really wish they would split the routes across 2 days. That way I can do the 15 km ride with my daughter and do the long race the next day.

One of the races i enjoy the most during the year. lotsa climbing but the single track is worth it. The mud last year ruined it a bit but its dry it will be awesome!

Cadenceblur - no worries there. Even I could do it last year! And I am on the shortlist for becoming the dirtroadie club mascot! :whistling:

One section where you'll simply have to wait and walk. Rideable, I thought... A little bit of singletrack through a bos and the just single-file at the end next to the river. Rest is open.

Then again, it is easier if you go as slow as I do!
