The rave: I improved vastly compared to last year. 2012 was 67km and I did it in over 4 hours. This year was 74.8km and I did it in 3:45.

Rant: 74.8km. They could have told us. Why are the published profiles and distances ALWAYS different to reality?

Agreed, at the 68km mark I was going flat-out thinking there's only 2km left.... big mistake :)

Ok. Done and dusted. Literally.

I'm impressed with my progress but Cullinan won't see me again.

I agree, slightly demoralising when you have done your 70 kms and they just keep taking you back into the bundus and over more hills, last 15 kms felt as though it was never going to end. Those 15 kms were tough and is if the real climbing only started at that hill at about 60 kms. I was seriously happy to see that 1 km to go sign. I'll be back next year, will at least know what to expect as the last part of the route was totally different and a lot tougher than last year, even if the wind wasn't howling.

RAVE-Tim,nice route, proper MTB riding.

RANT- having 20&40km riders joining the route after 40 odd kms, REALLY, what were you guys thinking. One doesnt expect 10-15 minutes of bottlenecks and standing around when you start in A batch.

This is NOT what I pay for and this is NOT what I work my ass off for to maintain the A seeding. I go there to race not sit behind fun riders!

Its not fair to us and its not fair to the fun riders either.

You guys have been planning routes for a long time now, we as a cycling community expect better from you.

Nothing more demoralising then having worked hard for 40 kms to have all your hard work undone by hundreds of riders walking at the sight of the slightest obstacle, river (sludge) crossings, climbs, jeep track, it was mayhem.

Thank you for adding to my stress levels this morning.

Rant off.

Agree. Great route with a good mixture of routes. Lots of fun riders ranting allot with faster riders moving through. Not fair. The first 40 odd Kilo's I said to my self this is great and looks like the seeding system is working well, Then all three races converged together. That means seeding system falls out the window as you cannot race against your own race now????.

I'm a fun rider and did the 40, but it wasn't fun at all! No fault of the route though, I'm just not strong enough for those hills! Had a mechanical and can now inflate a slow puncture wheel with my eyes closed (also helps me to "rest") ....

Best part if the day was chatting at the second water point, hope the medics could sort the guy out ... And off course working my way through the beer menu in the Main Street :-)

Not looking forward to the results though :-(

Oh we'll, Lost City next !!

I'm still angry, how hard can it be to get this right!?!? FFS! They been doing this for long enough. It's simple, keep the different routes separate. Separate, separate, separate. Please Tim get this right next time.

So I started at the back of A, was even the last person over the mat. Had a chilled ride until Vinnydabutcher caught me up riding out of B batch, landed up doing a bit of pacing for/with him up until the 60km mark. I was the guy sitting with the girl that fell at that loose right hand bend on the "technical" descent. We waited 1h30 for the paramedics!

Anyway, my ride time was 3h15 but total time was 4h51.

Great race, loved it. The walking wasn't fun, but was expected. Climbs were lekker :)

Quite a few people came off on that descent - and I also saw no medic posted there (which is my only rant)

Bring on the next one!

(BTW, results are on spectrumsport site_)

Agree with you totally, what's the point of seeding then ? And the loose rock climb that everyone walked up was probably only rideable by 10% of the field. Maybe I speak for myself but that walk up there destroyed my legs.

I don't think I will drive 1hr30 for that again
