Become a professional diver and you could pocket 100k a month tax free offshore

Know a few guys who used to do it and they reckon it's not as lucrative as it used to be. Whether it was boredom or physically too much I dont know. Their last jobs were picking artifacts off ancient wrecks. The stuff you see on Discovery Channel. Not as glamorous as it looks but a way to get R35k a month without studying for 8 years.

It has a limited career - I knew someone that was a bell diver on rigs and he could only do it until his early 30's

Jee you can be petty

firstly, did you follow the whole thread?

secondly, it's a joke. lot's of okes on the hub seem to be too serious or up their own arses to see humour in anything.

and thirdly, me and jgr have kissed and made up - in private, by pm.

so move right along, nothing to see here.

the big money for these are in the long term rig type of work, offshore for weeks, deep work, saturation,

thats where the diver, the supervisor etc coin it,

i've got a mate who's a sat diver and he reckons a lot of the okes are in their 40's and 50's. but jeez it must take a toll on your body. i see how knackered i am after 2 hours of diving for kreef and perlemoen (in the good old days - no perlies anymore).

was never lucky enough to get that far, had a strange situation of career change mid step, don't regret the change. just miss it some time.

I did follow the thread

I found JGR was making very valid points and was enjoying reading this thread

I would also have been out of my depth in this conversation that's why I didn't get involved. I am a stupid business owner who never studied

most professionals and for that matter people working in large established corporations get over-paid. not just bankers.

i started a steel fabrication factory around 18 months ago and I can tell you that going solo in the manufacturing industry is one of the hardest places to be in. Ons some months I worked 360 hours to finish deadlines and I was lucky if I went home with enough money to pay my bills.

So I was forced to give that up as a result of non-payment from a large client and applied for a job at a mining house. I received an offer on wednesday and my salary is going to be around 5X what I would earn from the factory.

He was a Navy diver for years and then worked on rigs, spending days working in a pressuried bell. Work a few weeks on then mandatory few weeks off. He might have been able go on longer but I guess its up to the individual and the effects on the body.

Most of the time by the time the guys body says enough he is long enough into it to either move over to a supervisor role or move over to ROV's, or planning or something.

there is a natural level of attrition.

My points were valid but perhaps I was just over zealous explaining them.

Business owners are the wealthiest of all professionals. One of my private banking clients told me that over 60% of their client are business owners.

What business you in Fabes? I always thought you were a desk jockey but I guess that fact that you get to watch the Friday Super rugby games should have been the first clue ....
