Hi Guys n Gals

Making the change to a full XO 2 x 10 setup and would like to know what experience you can share with regards to selection of chainring- and cassette sizes, chains etc.

Anything you have learnt...

I am currently riding a XT 3 x 10 setup:

44-32-22

11-34

29er run the 26/39 ring set

26er 28/42.

The cassette should be an 11-36, for both.

If you strong and climb like a demon, the 28/42 set will work on a 29er.

Also look at 1x11

Nice guys, thanks. This is on a 26" setup at the mo.

The Crank I bought is currently 26/39 so will have to change that probably as I like my climbing ;)

Any specific cassette you would recommend that wont break the bank ... well ... too much as I just bought:

XO Brakes

XO Crank

XO Rear Der

XO Front Der

So need to still get a decent chain, cassette and some rings.

You can`t go wrong with that XO setup. I had 3 x 9 XT and moved to 2 x 10 X0 - 28/36 on my 29er and loving it.

I have another bike with full XO 3x9 and must say that I have not had any troubles it seems to be the most bullet proof set on the market....in my opinion of course ;)

I too am in the process of changing my 3x10 XT to a double. Interesting thing with XO and even XX is that it aint all that light (for the price). Since I am not a strong climber I am looking at a 26 38 combo, possibly 26 39. I have, however been looking at some other super light cranks like the Raceface carbon crank or even a FSA carbon crank.

Does anyone have any experience with Raceface or FSA cranks in terms of reliability, getting parts, etc. Worst case scenario I may just stick to a new XT crank, which in terms of bang for your buck looks like a pretty good option.

I've been using Raceface chain rings, they are great, I get them on line from UK Bikestore. Have not had much luck with FSA chainrings, cranks are good though,

X0 will be more than adequate for the chainrings and you can easily get both for under a grand. On the cassette side, i realised that there was no way i was going to replace my xx cassette (even the X0 is almost 2k)..so i opted for the x9 equivalent....read up about putting a "cheaper" cassette on a alu freehub....i only found about that after the fact....some say its fine...some say its not...i will wait and see.

As for the gears - i did a Sani on the 42-28 and 11-36 combo on a 26" and I was able to pull 29ers on the long fast sections - so its more than adequate....brilliant for climbing as well. I love it

I rode a 26-42 with a 11-36 on my 26inch bike.

it works amazingly well. i don't think I'll ever go back to a triple.

Your granny is slightly less granny, and your top end is less, but I've never missed the top end to be honest.

Any 11-36 cluster will work. difference is weight, some shift marginally better, and the single body versions won't make grooves in an aluminium freebody. FWIW I ride an SLX cluster now because it was cheaper.
