Why must it be about saving lives, or science? Have you ever hit your head getting out from under a table and it hurt like a b_tch? A helmet would have helped... right?

Now you fall from your bike and hit your head on the curb. It is going to bleed and hurt like a MF, so what if in this case it's not life-threatening, you will be happy you wore a helmet when you look at the cracks and scratches.. right?

Argue "no benefit" of that for a while.

I know I'm going to get flamed for posting this but I can agree more:

Just so we are clear, I don't mind, and do wear a helmet when riding for sport (training and racing.) But I don't wear a helmet when commuting.

Gary, while I consider myself to be somewhat "open" to seeing the proverbial "wood for the trees", it would appear the root of your theory is guided by the perceived fallacy helmet manufacturers claim when marketing their product to the public. I see your point and while disproving these claims appears to be the lifework of some, it is not a theory I can easily subscribe to. Why would I even think of trying to promote NOT wearing a helmet when there ARE so many situations it WILL help?

I don't need a lab to prove that getting hit on the head by a low hanging branch with lid donned, is going to prevent me losing control and falling. Damn, I might lose the race.. again!

For only this one, single point, there is merit in their claim.

Your turn.

I have to agree on this.

@garyvdm What we can do to settle this forever: We both apply the rule of thumb on a stick, I'll wear a helmet, you don't. Then we start smacking each other on the head until one of us gives in. Are you in?

I think the people that are pro-non helmets. those that promote people not to wear helmets, are the same people that are for legalizing weed, just plain idiots all round.

now those that don't wear helmets i'm all for them leaving the gene pool early, if you have nothing to protect, you don't need to protect it.

Can I say "you hit the nail on the head" in this thread without opening a new line of debate?

I do agree with what you are saying. And I do need to explain my position better. I'm going to have to do that tonight - work deadlines :-(. No debating on thehub for me today.
