So I ordered some 5-10's off CRC yesterday.

I figured I'd pay the extra R100 for DHL express and get it this week still maybe.

Total cost with customs of 40% I estimate will come to R1600.

However, spoke to DHL guy today and he says with clearance times etc, I'll probably only get the shoes next week Tuesday.

For literally R25 more I could have driven to Observatory and bought the shoes at Mountain Mail Order and had them today.

Fail.

technically you will pay 49.6% tax on shoes (as a combined VAT and duty amount)

how far are you from Obs, lets factor in your cost of fuel and time - trying to make you feel better here :)

I know. Major fail. I tried asking advice on hub forums yesterday but I think the question got lost in the fray so I just went ahead. So stupid.

I've learned my lesson...I get mine delivered to my friend in the UK, so she can send it as a 'gift'.....I pay R50 rather than R550 when I go collect it at the post office.

Wasn't ging to say it as there is always the 'some hubbers work for SARS' storm that happens around that kind of post.

In the UK at the moment and just found loads of 'old' sigma, CRC and wiggle orders in my room that have totally belonged to me for many years and aren't new at all sir. Nice.

I just ordered the 5-10 Impacts from CRC. Difference is that mine are being schmokkelled in by a friend coming out on holiday.... I saved around R500.

I love your take on that word...schmokkeled. Feels good enough to practise.*

*Yes yes, the "s" is intentional

but then youv'e paid local UK vat (17.5 or 20% cant remember) and then your friend pays postage, experience shows that friends cant post for nearly as little as CRC can.....how much do you really save?

a mistake you won't make again I'm sure. For future reference there's an entire thread on the topic under Online Shopping
